Bad interaction with Nyquil? Seizure or just passed out?Towards the end of the movie i felt a bit of nasea, I figured it was from whatever bug I had and maybe from the graphic death in the movie. The movie was over I decided I better hurry up wrangle up my ferrets and get to bed. I remember getting off the couch... The next thing I know Im looking up at Laura's face, and shes holding me asking me if Im allright, I mumble yes and fall back into darkness, from what shes told me this happened a few times till I finally came to and realized I was on the floor. I was a little shaky at first when I did get up, I asked for a dr pepper had a sip and had to puke in the sink. As soon as I puked I felt better, I was still kinda groggy for a bit, but felt ok and convinced Laura I was allright, I scared the crap out of her though. We went to bed, the last couple days I had a high fever but I sure as hell didnt take Nyquil, just aspirin, which i hope is safe. Looking back Im not sure if I should of gone to the hospital of not, its an hour drive and it has to be an emergency or my insurance doesnt cover it. Ofcourse I wasnt thinking straight, what if i had a concussion from the fall? Laura said she didnt see me convulse or anything but my body did jerk once when she was calling me name trying to get me to come back to conciousness, the whole thing probably lasted a few minutes, shes unsure, it seemed like forever to her. Ive told her before this happened theres a small chance that I may have some form of seizure disorder, and what to do if I was to ever have one. I had a pretty high fever the last few days, it finally broke today, right when Laura has to go home |

| From what you've described, my guess would be that you had a seizure. Not only do OTC meds lower seizure threshold, so does just the mere fact of being sick. Sounds like your gf is a a sweety. I'd consider the seizure a breakthrough seizure. But from now on, when you get sick, no staying up late, take the meds on time, and no OTC meds.

| I had left out yesterday when posting that at the time of the incident I was slowly being taken off Topamax too, I think it has been causing some cognitive and memory side effects in my life, Today is my first Topamax free day, I can type better, less jumbled words and psuedo-dsylexia if thats anything, and soda tastes soooooo good again. Also that night I saw lights in the corners of my eyes from time to time, which isnt that uncommon for me, I use to see them more when I smoked to much. But I've read sometimes that can be part of an aura, it didnt feel intense like the other aura's I believe Ive experienced. |

| I agree with Skillefer's comment that you need to take better care of yourself, especially when you're not feeling well. OTC meds don't affect me to the point of having a seizure. However, Nyquil is a pretty strong medication, and I believe there is a warning on it to check with your doctor before taking it if you have seizures. I'm not sure on this as I don't take Nyquil. Also, when I'm weaning on or off any seizure medication, I am extra, extra careful about everything I do and eat. I make sure I get extra sleep, I don't drive, and don't take OTC medications unless I clear everything with my neurologist. In other words, this is the time to be taking care of yourself. That said, it sounds like you are feeling better w/out the Topamax, which is great. My neurologist calls it "Torquamax" because so many people get weird side effects from it. |

| My Neurologist office finally called me back today... I didnt answer it they got my voicemail, didnt answer my question about what otc meds might be safe, but decided to stress the the Dr didnt know what might be causing the feinting spells, but it appears to not be a seizure. For some reason this Dr is of a very strong opinion that theres no possible way that I could of had a seizure after Ive described several episodes, including one that I have a real hard time not believeing was a gran mal. Ofcourse he has no other explanation, Im guessing since I don't describe whats in his textbook word for word, I dont show anything huge on an EEG, and I cant dance on command, he doesn't believe me. Sorry I needed a vent, Im done with that Dr hes an ass, and has been proven so time and time again. I just hate having to start all over again, means I have to go to my primary care doc get another referral to a new Doc, though this time it ought to be easier, my primary care doc is pretty cool, and was a bit shocked at my Neurologist opinions. Brain Disorders SUCK, the only person not from this site who really seems to totally believe me now or at least comprehend what Im talking about is Laura, and that cause the poor girl shares a bed with me some nights and has to put up with me twitching and jerking on the bad nights, but at least not someone has seen it and experienced it with me. It good to have someone like that in my life. She makes it not so bad. |
