celiac diseaseHow was you disgnosesd? How do you treat this? I'm asking because I was reading on the internet that celiac disease - interfers with absorbing the nutrition from your foods and vitamins. I'm thinking this could be what is causing my problems with the B-12 defic. NOTE: I finally have a Dr. & compound phar. working on making up Vit. B6, B12, folic acid for me. Waiting for it. My husband told me that I should forget everything, that nothing was going to work for me. |

| Celiac Disease is a disease of the digestive tract. They don't know what causes it but I'd highly doubt it is caused by any neurological pathology. If you had it, you'd know it. The list of symptoms are long & painful, things like bloating, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. I know some people believe there is a connection between that (or gluten) & epilepsy but there hasn't been any scientific conclusion yet to show that to be true. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001280/

| jyearta, you might be interested in these articles: http://www.celiac.com/articles/807/1...tis/Page1.html http://www.celiac.com/articles/116/1...ase/Page1.html As Eric says, any connection between celiac and epilepsy is anecdotal (rather than scientifically proven), but if you are having absorption issues that could be a contributing seizure trigger, similar to the way dehydration and fatigue can be. |

| Thanks you all. This might sound silly - but today I drank orange juice for the folic acid and I have felt better. (????) I went on the internet to look up folic acid deficiency, the computer brought up Bipolar disorder. Reading this, it sounds alot like me. I'm guessing bipolar can come on later in life, like some in this forum developed E. later in their life. I've been saying the B-12 shots have been sending me into a rage, my emotions are all over the place. I not the same person I used to be, I used to love to laugh, go out to dinner w/friends, have people over for dinner. How I'm scared I will become this angry person. Thanks for listening. |

| I don't believe you always know that you have it. It can go undetected for years. It doesn't even show up on many of the contemporary tests until it is a full blown problem. It is an auto-immune disease. Symptoms Some remove it from their daily nutritional choices and see if they feel better. All gluten sensitivity and intolerance is a delayed allergic response to the proteins gluten and gliadin resulting in intestinal inflammation. This inflammation may lead to villi deterioration, and Celiac disease, over time. Gluten sensitivity is often misdiagnosed or not diagnosed at all because most doctors just test for Celiac disease. This is why most people who are gluten intolerant do not test positive for Celiac disease. http://www.sciencenews.org/view/gene...worth_treating http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18467196 http://www.gastrohep.com/news/news.asp?id=108099 http://www.endo-society.org/media/EN...ac-disease.cfm
