clean EEG?

so, my son had his EEG today, and the tech let it slip that it's most likely going to be read "clean" with no issues... (which is what we were hoping for.)

Now, on to the second part of this, if it IS clean - i'm thinking his issues, may be more of a migraine and low blood sugar issue instead?

I've heard it mention that seizure activity can occur as a side effect of both of these issues - so if his EEG is negative, should I head his neurologist down this path to see if that's his issue?

His blood sugar was 72 after eating when he had his supposed "Grand mal" and he has been sleeping better, eating better, eating no sugar and gluten free and he's done better in general over all the last 2-3 weeks...

he complained about getting a headache after the flashing light test and breathing test during the EEG but didn't appear to have any seizure activity that was picked up, or noticeable by anyone. (I had to be in the room and I got a headache breathing with him to keep him focused on the test and from the lights myself and spaced out while driving home - I am still fighting off a freaking migraine just because I was exposed to this during the test while he was taking it haha.)

he's been complaining about a headache since the test happened, and it got a little bit better after lunch...

So, I'm wondering if maybe it's a mix of two or three different things that's manifesting "seizure-like" instead of an actual seizure disorder???

Is that possible? And, is it worth investigating and bringing up to his neurologist?

I wouldn't put too much in the EEG if it comes back clean. I've had clean EEGs when I was a kid that didn't record the seizure I had while hooked up.

There have been a lot of people here that have had the same/similar experiences where their seizures weren't acknowledged by the EEG for one reason or another.

Talk to the neurologist first before jumping to the conclusion that epilepsy is not a part of the problem.

I don't know if I can rule out epilepsy as part of the problem - I just am not going to allow them to medicate unless they can *prove* it's the problem.... so I just am trying to figure out how to rule out other issues that might manifest in a similar fashion but may not be epilepsy...

I just want to rule things out too, if that makes sense.

Risk of the seizures or seizure-like symptoms progressing is another. Considering a dietary approach is yet another. These are all good things to discuss with the neurologist. Any time you have a question or concern you should bring it up (even if you aren't sure you should).

the doctor called and left a message, his EEG was clean and looked great.

We go in tomorrow. My husband is glad to see that whatever our issues appear to be, it's not spiking on the monitors in a way that would overly concern the doctors at this point - so it gives us a lot of leeway to try less "traditional" routes of treatments (i.e. hardcore meds) to reduce symptoms at least.

we'll be talking about different things to consider with the doctor tomorrow - including migraine and blood sugar issues, and anything else that might be related... I don't think my son is autistic... (though, I suppose it would be worth ruling that out too.)
