Cruisin' for a Bruisin' CureI just wanted to know if anyone has a great way to get rid of those nasty I.V. brusies in the fold of your elbow? I heard Vitamin K compresses work for bruises on your knees and shins but I dont know where to find this. My Shopper's Drug Mart didnt have it. Anything else you know of? Its been about a week and the bruise is still black and purple and blue and very tender. Hasnt even turned yellow around the edges yet and when ever i get an I.V. the bruise afterwards is huge! I;m talking 4 or 5 inches wide on all sides. What would make it bruise like this even tho the needle prick is small and the liquids just go into the vein, not the skin around (or does it?) Also side note: No auras anymore!!! *I'm not sure yet if this is upsetting or exciting. A) it means the small amount of drug in my system is doing something. B) I now have no warning when it happens...

Hi Rae -- My sister bruises easily, and her bruises seem to last forever. She also doesn't give blood because last time she tried it took forever, and it made her dizzy. In her case I think it has to do with tiny, fragile capillaries, and relatively low blood pressure. She also gets cold hands and feet easily -- don't know if that happens to you too. I've also heard that Vitamin K cream can help fade/clear bruises -- maybe look in a health food store? Also you could try vinegar (in a compress) but that may just be a folk remedy. There are some vitamins that can help protect against future bruising -- Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin, K , Zinc -- so if you're low on any of those you might want to add them to your diet.

I've never tried this, but I've heard that soaking a cotton ball or cloth with white vinegar and putting that on your bruise will make it heal faster. [EDIT] I just looked that home remedy up, and you need to keep it on the bruise for about an hour. I hope you like the smell, and don't start craving salt and vinegar chips Last edited by occb; 10-13-2009 at 11:01 PM.

Whatever you end up doing Rae let us know. My wife gets horrible bruising too so it would be a good thing to know. On a side note, it's great to hear that you're not having the auras. Hopefully no auras means no seizures. Since they pretty much directly relate to each other controlling one should, by definition control the other I would think. Correct me some one if I'm wrong...
