Day 4 of headache, gah!

So i had a load of partials on tuesday morning and since then i've had a thumping headache. I get like stabbing pains in the side of my head which last perhaps half a second but are very painful, then i think they cause another headache which feels like itsa all at the top of my head.

Paracetamol doesn't seem to weork for long, but today i went to the gym and since i came out it's been way worse. It's taking me a long timme to typoe legibly and understand things, and i'm feeling wobbly on my feet, like i'm going to fall over.

I'm wondering could this be a side effect of Vimpat? i've been on 200mg a day for a few weeks now as well as the 3000mg of keppra a day.

Having tgis headache added to the awdful week i've had at work is not helping things

Oh Lou, I'm sorry, that sounds pretty horrendous. Headaches are a listed side effect of Vimpat, so you could be right about the connection. And exercise can cause the blood vessels in the head to dilate, so if you're already vulnerable to headaches it may make things worse.

Can you lie down in a dark room? With a cool washcloth on your forehead? A tiny bit of caffeine can actually help (unless you react badly to caffeine in general). Ginger tea might help too. (Both caffeine and ginger help constrict the blood vessels in the brain).
Stay hydrated, and feel better.

Pffft i am one miserable Lou at the moment. Supposed to be enjoying my weekend off! Hope it goes away by the time the rugby is on on Sundaay.

I don't know about Vimpat but I'm getting those 'top of the head' headaches from Keppra. But in my case exercise usually helps to stop it (but it often comes back pretty quickly after stopping the physical activity, unfortunately). So I guess that's something else in your case.

I usually take panadeine extra for those kind of headaches (which is 500mg paracetamol + 15mg codeine) and some coffee along with it (both because it often helps the pain and because the codeine in the panadeine makes me sleepy).

Hope you feel better soon

Red face

I have partials too. And I get those miserable migraines as well. I find If I put an icepack on my head above my left eyebrow and behind my neck it helps/ Also I rub a little of a oil that has peppermint and lavender oils on my temples and it seems to help.

Ohhhhhh, lou.

Headaches suck. Big time. I have 'em almost constantly from the IIH. All I can say is ice. Ice on your head, ice behind your neck. shocking at first but it helps at least some.

feel better soon, okay?

I'm feeling a little better today. Slept from 9pm last night to 12pm today. Still have a slight headache but its nowhere near as bad as last night. Just wondering if I should risk going to the gym again or just have a quiet day and maybe a wander to town.

I'm a bit hesitant to try ice on my head as I know when we have really cold weather here that makes my head hurt too.

Headache seems to have gone now, instead I have a prickly feeling that feels like ants are tickling the inside of my head. Weird. Also my dad just jabbed me in the ribs a few times and asked if was ok. Must have been having a blank moment. I've been on Vimpat for weeks now, should problems have shown up sooner than this? Also, it doesn't seem to be doing much for my partials. This is the third drug I've tried =\ I have temporal lobe epilepsy, someone tell me this gets better?

Edit - sorry, seem to be feeling a little sorry for myself today.

Lou,

One of these times the drug you try will be the right one. I'm on my 5th (lamictal), and it's the magic pill. No rash this time around, and I can handle the rest of the side effects.

I'd love to say it gets better. But the truth is that sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn't. Some of it is under our control though. We can eat healthy, get lots of sleep, take our meds on time, see our doc when we should and get our blood tests done. Those things alone make it all much better.

Time makes it better, too. Sometimes some of the side effects get much better or go away entirely after some time has gone by and the body is more used to the drug.

Hang in there.

Hi Lou,

That's great that your headache has finally gone & I hope it stays away.

I often get headaches, I can handle the smaller headaches but the bigger ones which last a few days annoy me.
