hello all:hello: I have a question... (yes, I've already called my neuro) I recently had dental work done, 8 days ago. My third molar had to be cut out. I still have my wisdom tooth next to it, which I could never get removed (due to it was connected to a "nerve") The dentist had to work really hard for an hour and finally cut it out after an hour of trying. I've had a bad headache ever since. I just thought maybe it was supposed to hurt. My mom jumped on me to call the neuro right away (she retired as a phys. asst.) as she thought maybe the trigeminal nerve was damaged or something. My seizures have increased, probably due to the pain of the headache and jaw pain. I have partials, and don't know yet what other kind. Still testing. I just know I feel terrible and am seizing a lot since then. Has anyone else ever had this happen, and if so, does the E. complicate things greatly? or just like everyone else's dental work gone awry? Thanks for any input, I'm so new at all this that I have so many questions that I can't be calling my neuro 50 times a day with it.

I have been reading up on dental work and neurological issues.
Was there a filling in this tooth? People report a lot of trauma when old amalgams are removed improperly.

I can send you a paper on the safe removal of amalgam fillings. Not that that can help you now. But I do believe they mention certain supplements that can make the procedure more tolerable.

Here's my situation.

After I had my wisdom teeth taken out I started having seizures like crazy. They ignored the fact that a spike was growing outward, (this generally happens but it is supposed to grow back into your jaw) but mine did not grow back into my jaw.

2 years later they finally found the spike, filed the sucker down and once my jaw healed.... like half a year later? I began to not have seizures again. I still need my medication, but the ridiculous amount of seizures and my seizures in general (as long as i take my meds) is gone!

SO I think that has to do with your jaw not being healed. I know my trigeminal nerve is really close to my teeth as well, but it was necessary to extract the wisdom tooth.

They were shocked that such a surgery affected me, but with a history of epilepsy and most of the pain / seizure like activity was near my right side of my jaw, face and hands... it makes perfect sense to me.

So keep in touch. :) Give it time to heal!!! Keep in close contact with your dentist and neuro as well.

Best of luck and God bless,

-jackie-
