Dilantin and Depakote

It seems as if maybe the Depakote is "eating up the Dilantin". My neurologist like my levels to be between 19 and 20; the past 2 weeks it has been at 0.6.
The Depakote is the only thing that is new. Has anyone else had this happen and if so what did you neurologist do. Thanks bunches!

I was

on Depakote, Lamictal and Dilantin all at the same time, and had major issues, period. That summer (5 years ago) REALLY SUCKED.

Depakote was battling with Lamictal, making it spike too high. And I gained over 100 pounds on that stuff over 7 years--up to a whopping 350 at one point. And yes, there were issues with keeping the Dilantin up there.......but whether or not it was the Depakote doing it, or the reaction between the Depakote and Lamictal causing that to happen, I have no idea........

Hopefully your neurologist is aware of the how the 2 drugs interact with each other.
Quote :
It can displace Dilantin from protein binding sites and slightly increase the free Dilantin level. In each case, side effects may increase slightly.
