Since being put on disability back in 2007, I believe stress now is my #1 reason for seizures. It's time to move out of my mother's house already. :(

Would be nice to finally find a way to make income online! Maybe that would fix things.

No. Every one of the 5 szs I've had were at times when I was very relaxed. I haven't had any negative affects from stress, except I'll qualify that in that sleep deprivation is VERY bad so if it's keeping you up at night that is problematic.

Stress is 1 of my main seizure triggers, along with over tiredeness.

I definitely consider STRESS the #1 reason for a lot of things

I assume you are referring specifically to mental stress, and no, it is not a consistent or frequent trigger for me. Overdoing a workout in the gym is the only thing that comes close to being a frequent (but not consistent) trigger.

tiredness fatigue and stress is No 1 killer for me.

Relaxation things cure it for sure.
Meditation & incense.
herbal teas.
Glass of wine.
Valerian tablet in the evening.
Yoga.
Chill music.

All help me to be calm sleep well and reduce likelihood of it.

I find all types of stresses contribute- anxiety, hunger & even positive things like being excited about something all seem to increase the likelihood of me having a seizure.

Lights, noise, aromas, chaos, drama set off my seizures. Being tired, stressed, forgetting to eat, etc weaken my ability to deal with the triggers.

for me it's factual, considered for a long time by me then proven so by my doctor.
between being in a high-stress relationship and having to face brain surgery, there was a two-year span that increased my grand mals 10-fold.
secondary issue: to relax and try and see things differently i enjoy a glass or more (i'm honest here) of wine. the two don't go well together for most with e, so (and i say this b/c lightheartedness is key to being calm), i should prob let go of the relationship or the cab sav :ponder:

Mine have happened morning, noon, at bedtime and in my sleep, so mine have been brought on by hormonal stress.

Stress has been shown to trigger seizures in epileptics. This may include stress over hard work one is trying to accomplish, one's obligations in life, worries, emotional problems, frustration, anger, anxiety, or many other problems.
Stress can trigger a seizure because it affects the hormone cortisol. It can also affect the part of the brain that regulates emotion. In one study, emotional stress was reported by 30-60% prior to their seizures, thereby being the leading cause.

Stress is up there for me--my #1 though is running, which I guess i have to quit. I'm probably alone in this but I swear sleeping TOO much is a trigger as well.

I have been having seizures more frequently in the last few days. I worry about this and wonder what's causing me to have them more frequently. It is interesting to note that someone said too much sleep can cause them. I know too little sleep and excess stress cause them for me. My last seizure was yesterday when I went to the YMCA to exercise. After class I sat at a table and had something to eat and then closed my eyes and slept, about 20 minutes. That morning I got up late and had more sleep than normal and was stressed out because I had little time to eat and catch the bus, so I guess I was sublimely stressed. it's so difficult to identify the triggers but I truly hope and pray they don't get worse because I don't want to take medication; so this website is invaluable to me to get other peoples ideas. Any more good ideas, PM me

This is the same for me. Not enough sleep and stress (mental and physical) are the main triggers.

I've been under a good deal of stress lately. There are some serious medical problems going on with my grandparents and my husband had some minor surgery done. When I was in the waiting room while he was in surgery I had a TC, which I very rarely have - the worse the stress the worse the seizure.

Depression is another trigger for me. I don't get depressed very often but if I do it's because of something serious. An example is when one of my cats died a few years ago. We knew that a seizure was on it's way. Two days after we buried him I had a pretty bad seizure.

Over-exerting myself...usually when working out...which I'm about to do...I feel twitchy/tingly afterwards if I over-do it...it's that damn Super Saiyan adrenaline...gotta not try to save the whole damn world and just enjoy the moment... (easier said than done ya know what I'm saying???)

sleep deprivation...

from either a manic phase, the moon, porn or all of the above

I hadn't even though of the "sleepiness" - not necessarily a lack of sleep, but just before my t/c last week all I could think of is how much I wanted to just curl up and sleep. Which begs the question - was the oncoming sz the cause of the sleepiness or the other way around?

It is usually both. A seizure, especially a T/C seizure is a huge strain (mentally & physically) on the body so fatigue and confusion are common post-ictal effects.

Of course being tired or fatigued makes it harder for our bodies & minds to deal with stresses hence increasing the probability of having a seizure.

I do believe that most seizures in most people are caused by a combination of stresses that just increase probabilities rather than any single stress being a the one & only definite cause of their seizures.
