Does this sound like epilepsy?

Sorry to post a thread which is very similar to many I am sure, but I have never been able to find a description clsoe to what I feel when I have certain experiences, and wanted to ask to see if anyone thinks it may be epilepsy.

The first experience I had was almost four years ago, and they are very infrequent, but when I do have it is almost an all day thing. I have pretty much linked them to happening only when I am tired, or at least predominatly when I am tired.

I will now do my best to describe what it feels like when I have these experiences.

Everything will seem fine, then all of a sudder I will space out to my surroundings, or have to fight to stay focuses on what is actually going on around me. My mind is trying to focus on what seems like vivid memories at the time, then the more I think of these "memories" the more bizarre they seem until it finally clicks in that these are infact not memories, and then the "memory" slowly fades away bit by bit until I can't remember a thing about it and am left with a confused feeling as well as being feeling very hot, sometimes to the point of persperating in the face. In total the experience from start to finish is usually only a few seconds to about a minute long and then I am back to normal, but am aware of what just happened. One time when I was having one of those days I decided tog et a pen and paper and write down the "memory" I had to see what it was since I could never remember... after coming out of the experience what I had written down was three words that in no way had any connection to each other nor made any sense.

After all these years I think I am finally going to make a Dr.'s appointment and see if he may be able to help, but wanted to make this post to see if anyone can relate to the experiences I am having ro offer any guidance.

It sounds like it is epilepsy. The thing to do is go to a neurologist and get and EEG and get diagnosed.

Welcome, We're not Dr's but yea it sounds a lot like mine. Especially the hot part. Dr's convinced me I was having hot flashes for years. You will find so much support and guidance here I can not tell you. It can be a touch road, keep your chin up. Read up on simple and complex partial seizures. Mine are always preceded by an intense Deja Vu and end with the heat. What happens in between I can't remember. I try to hold on to the Deja Vu part as long as I can I think that may be similar to what you do. Good luck and keep us informed.

Yes, it is a hard time when we have seizures. I had some all day long yesterday. I called my neurologist and he is going to see me Thursday. Stay well Flinnigan!!

Finnigan, I'm glad you're going to see a Dr. about this and I'm glad you came here too! I too have simple and complex partials and had them for many years before I realized what they were. Mine too were infrequent -- sometimes even years apart -- but I had one last summer that was a little worse than the previous ones had been. That led me to a Dr. and a diagnosis. Since I've been on medication, I haven't had anymore episodes although one never knows. Please keep us updated!

Thank you all so much for your insights, you have no idea how relived I am to fianlly have a possible diagnosis. That was one of the main things that prevented me from going to the doctor before as I just couldn't really put what was happening into words.

After reading about the different types of seizures I can say with the utmost certancy that my experiences are simple partial seizures. I missed my Dr.'s office today but will be calling first thing in the morning to make an appointment.

Hey NBGuy. My seizures were very similar to yours in that I would zone out into like a daydream that was very familiar at the time but afterwards I couldn't tell you a thing about it. I would feel sick after and sometimes vomit. I never went to the dr for the same reason as you, I had no idea how to describe it and thought that they would think I was some crazy lady!! It took for me to have a grand mal seizure in my sleep for me to do something about it so don't leave it too long!

I have the same problem. I will say things to my son and my husband and not remember it. They take me serious. It is something I would not want them or me to do.

Help your families to not take what we say or do seriously. One day I turned to my son and said in a British Accent "Bring the car around Charlie" we had a great laugh. That's a line from the Chaplin movie. We try really hard not to be too serious about these things. It helps reduce stress. I think people in general not just us with E take things way too seriously.
