Smile dosages for bioidentical progesterone and use of diuretics??

Does anyone know how much progesterone would be given to try and eliminate or decrease seizure activity during menstruation. My daughter is 25 and all seizures except one have been when she is on her period. She has started bioidentical progesterone cream 10MG/0.25mls twice a day for the last two weeks of her menstral cycle. Any ideas? Also is anyone using a diuretic around the time of their period?

Personally I would suggest asking your doctor, or at least a professional who is familiar with the endocrine system.

I have asked my family dr. and she is not familiar with anything to do with bioidenticals. The neurologist doesn't even want to hear about hormones. We have a request in for a new neurologist. but she may not know about them either...will have to see. It is my naturopath who works with an md that wrote the perscription for the bio progesterone. I am just wondering if anyone else is on progesterone and how much??? I realize that women depending on age will have different needs. My daughter is 25. I am 51 and on bioidenticals for peri-menopause symptoms and love them. I have encouraged my daughter to go on them to try and help her seizures since 11 out of 12 have been while on her period.

If your naturopath wrote the prescription why would they not tell you what dose to use?

That sounds very unprofessional.

Of course she told her what dose to use. I am curious as to what others are dosing at...

It's been a long time since I tried bio-identical progesterone but I do recall it was a very small dose. I only want to say that it did trigger seizures for me. I tried it compounded in soy, sweet potato & water base gel & had same reaction with each. Sorry I couldn't help but wish your daughter "good luck".

Thanks Loopy, not what i was hoping to hear but appreciate your response. My daughter had a seizure after just 8 days on it...so not sure what to do...her progesterone is compounded as well (yam) We want to give it a month and wait til her next period...but hope she will not have another grand mal...its difficult to make these decisions. I am looking into 2 studies on catamenial seizures that are in Toronto and hoping i can get some info from them.

Good luck with those studies. I've posted this before but this professor gives excellent advice on ways to analyze if a study is likely to be questionable. I hope this helps.

You might try contacting Dr. Andrew G. Herzog (at Beth Israel hospital here in Boston). He's done research on using progesterone therapy to treat seizures.
