EEG question? We are entirely brand new to all of this, though I've done a ton of research since she had the tonic seizure almost two weeks ago. It's clear she had an abnormal reaction triggered, which was likely some sort of seizure activity. So, here's the question part... What type of seizure does this sound like to you? And more importantly, can anyone tell me if this is the sort of seizure activity that is easily picked up by an EEG, or often missed? I've read so many accounts of clear EEGs when Epilepsy was actually in play... and I'm concerned because there is a history of seizures in both my side of the family (my father and my father's aunt both took seizure meds as adults), as well as my husband's side of the family (his mother, though she was never diagnosed because of a clear EEG). It sounds bad, but I'm actually worried the EEG will come back clear. I started out praying for normal results, but now I'm just praying for an accurate reading. |

| I wish I could help! but I am new to all of this as well. My son is 4 and was diagnosed with tonic clonic absence frontal seizures. He has had 3 EEG's, all clear. neurologist said that his seizures were coming from deep within, and would be hard to catch, if at all, on EEG..so, she started him on meds. I know what you mean tho regarding results. I prayed that his seizures would show on EEG..I can't stand feeling like I don't have all the answers! Feel like I'm bumping in the dark here as well.. Hang in there... |

| My son (who is 8 and has been having them since he was 3) has had 10 eegs one 24 hour one and has never ever showed anything. We go to CHOP in Philly and our doctors say that there is a good chance of him out growing it since nothing was found on the eeg. I asked then why is he having them? She said it just might be a part of the brain that has not matured yet. We are on Depakote Sprinkle and the have keep him seizure free (NO JINX) until we weened him off only to have one after being off the meds. But we will try again this june (NO JINX). Whether they show up or not if he is having seizure then they need to be treated some way, diet, meds, etc. Stay strong... |

| Her first seizure was actually on Jan 18th around 6:15, 6:20 in the morning. I've read about myoclonic seizures, and this is is what I think I saw... Just not sure since there were so many in the 1-2 minutes that they lasted. Plus, they weren't isolated to just her arms. It was much more widespread and random. But still very rhythmic and rapid. Going crazy waiting for EEG results.... |
