I am starting to get frustrated with my Neurologist. The last couple of times that I have gone he has been suggesting for me to go to an Epilogist. We don't have any in my area, and I would have to go to Chicago or Indianapolis. Of course my insurance won't cover that because they would be out of network. Is it really that important? Can't the neurologist take care of whatever needs to be done? I think he is frustrated with me because we have had to change meds around quite a bit lately. Any advise would be helpful :)

A good neurologist can be as effective as a good epileptologist. But a good neurologist is hard to find. Odds are an epileptologist will be more helpful because they're more up to date on all the research, meds, side effects, and treatments. Either way, you deserve to have a doc who doesn't get frustrated with you. It's the doctor's job (at least theoretically) to be understanding with you and what you're going through. There are sites that recommend doctors in different specialties/locations, and have patient ratings, so you might want to start there. (If I can come up with the sites, I'll post the links for you).

Here are some:

Angie's list: http://reviews.angieslist.com/Health/Doctors.aspx?af=103001&RefID=PPC:123&marid=sl4fMrewf

Healthgrades: http://www.healthgrades.com/

Though, here's an article on the problems with the validity of the data on these sites: http://e-patients.net/archives/2008/11/how-good-are-doctor-rating-sites.html

Here's an article on how to get varied types of Dr. info: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2898562/how_to_get_doctor_ratings_and_reviews.html?cat=5

Your health insurance company may also have ratings provided by other patients.
