Ever just be sitting down and have your heart suddenly start racing?

I'm freaking out over what happened last night. I don't think it was a seizure because I never lost consciousness and never got that "foggy" feeling I usually get after a seizure. The back of one side of my jaw hurt but that was about it. I have no idea what it was. Has anyone had this happen?

Hi, Forward.

Was the pain in your left jaw? If so you need to call your doc NOW. Racing heart and a painful jaw can be early symptoms of a heart attack. It's probably nothing, or it's just a side effect of your meds, but you need to rule out a heart attack now.

Will you let us know how you are doing later today?

I am fine. I went to work. I think I will go to the Dr tomorrow though just to be safe.

I went to the Dr. today and they said I'm fine. They did an EKG and everything was normal. I know it wasn't the smartest thing to wait this long. Next time I'll just go to the emergency room.

I sometimes get what they call PAT's. I forget exactly that that stands for. Pulmonary Arterial Tachardia or something like that. My heart will start racing around 220/minute. Blood pressure drops, no fun at all. Usually last less than a minute, but have gone on as long as 2 hours. When they go on awhile, my veins start to hurt throughout my body. The doctors aren't worried about it though. Kinda of a 'Oh, it's only a PAT, it's nothing to worry about'. But I also have an prolapsed tricuspid valve.....so I worry about it. heh.

Did have an odd sensation a few days ago, and my heart was up about 120/minute. Had me hyperventilating. I wondered if it was related to the seizures. It was another hour till I needed to take my meds, so I went ahead and took them early. And that seemed to solve the problem.

That sounds scary.

It is when it goes on for a long while.

I did call 911 one time maybe six years ago, it'd was the middle of the night and had been going on close to two hours. They injected something that stopped the PAT. Took me to the emergency room, they did an EKG and said, "It's just a PAT, go home."

Had no insurance, it cost me $3500 for the ambulence and emergency room.

Sometimes people, especially woman, do not realize they are having a heart attack or the beginning of one.
I would consider going to the ER just for a check up where you don't have to wait to go to the doctor. It would be better for them to evaluate you rather than sit in the doctor's office without much emergency treatments for you.
It might in fact be something else- but it should not be something you play around with. It could mean life or death you know?
I do have Tachycardia with PACs/Premature Atrial Contractions meaning my heart contracts too early rather than on time..feels weird and sometimes hurts in my chest..not a heart attack..
I take meds for it..

Anyways .. look into it fast if possible

Crystal

I found out it was the DHEA that was making my heart race. I switched from 50mg/day to 10mg/day and it stopped happening.

In my case going to the ER would end what little insurance I have!Especially if they found a problem. Better in my case I feel sometimes just to suffer and die alone. Sorry no offense to anyone. JUST HOW HARD IT FEELS RIGHT NOW!
Hub lost job and we are starting our own business ----and all the stress that goes with it. I dont think trying to get private insurance will be funn!

Oh Sandi, I feel your pain! My hubby was out of work for over a year, but thankfully I am the one who carries the insurance. We had our own business for awhile, but I still kept my other job. It is soooo hard out there right now. Best of luck to you!

Can the other problems be anxiety related??

Just a thought to consider if needed in the future....if this were to occur during the day, you might have the option to go to a 'quick care clinic'...most are open 7am to 7 pm. I would call the closest one to make sure of hours and exact location if you are unsure. It would be much cheaper than ER. You could also ask them when you call re; are they equiped to handle possible heart attacks....they should be, although they would likely have you transferred to ER as soon as possible if you were having one. Just a thought to consider due to financial concerns. But make sure of facts first.

Also, some hospitals/health care systems in the US will write off some of your bill as 'bad debt' (in case you are not familiar with that, it is an accounting term meaning they will never collect it or it will take a very long time, in which case they do not want it on their books as incoming cash; does not go against your credit report or anything) which would leave you with a smaller bill. Typically this would involve submitting income information and helping them realize that it will take forever to pay it off, you are going to do what you can with a small monthly payment, etc....the ones I have knowledge of have been as much as 30%. Oh, I am aware of this happening only when there is no insurance (or if you have a massive one such as 10 thousand or up). It would never hurt to try.

I have been out of work for about a month, although I was taken off keppra a few years ago because the doctors feel my seizures are pseudo so I take other types of medication. I was on cobra but the cost of insurance and the pain of them paying for my medication cause more anxiety and depression than I had when not on medicine. I dropped the insurance before losing my job in hopes I would be allowed to get on company plan. I have not taken serequel in quite some time so my mood can jump at any moment. It really is horrible because I am aware of my mood swings and begin to even turn on myself, which at this point I am cold and sharp tongue'd cutting through others emotions like a katana. Left with pieces of another relationship to mend.
