Good and bad news

Good news--I have a boyfriend and he knows I have epilepsy and is cool with it.

Bad news--Today was our first date. I'm guessing I got too excited, because I had two seizures.

Question--Is it possible to be so excited your neurons go haywire? I'm still new to this whole seizure thing....

You have to remember that excitement & stress effect you the same way neurologically by increasing the flow of neurons.

Of course I'd prefer excitement over stress.

That explains it, then. Yeah, same here. Escecially this kind of excitement.

He said he had a good time, despite the seizures, so that's good at least.

Always have faith that the good news will outweigh the bad and enjoy life!

Stress is definitely a trigger for many people. For me, it used to hit when the stress would go away (weird).

Stress can come from both positive and negative things. Being psyched up for a party (or a date with your boyfriend) can cause stress.

I had a great time, and I tried to stay relaxed, but I guess I didn't do so well. I'm really concerned because I've never had two seizures in one day. My head really really hurts now. Anyone got any cures for post-ictal headaches?

Actually, I found some music that really helped. Norah Jones's CD "Come Away With Me".

That's great news, Literophile (the boyfriend and (also the CD) ).

Me, too, Buckeye. The night I learned for sure I was staying in law school was also a short night for studying. I sat down at the table to study, and woke up on the couch. I had been getting more wound up for weeks, but only when there was nothing more to stress over did I have the seizure.

Postictal headache helper - ICE.

Put it in a couple of ziplock bags (squeeze/suck as much of the air out as you can) then put them inside pillowcases. Lay down and get comfy. Put one icebag on your head and one behind your neck. Only have one layer of pillowcase between your skin and the ice. It's really really cold, but you'll get used to it. Listen to quiet music, or just lay there. Let yourself fall asleep. I know it sounds crazy, but ice in those places eventually makes you sleepy.

Contrats on the boyfriend! He sounds great!

Thank you! I'll have to try that. I'm going to buy a LOT more Norah Jones music, because it seems to realign my neurons. So Norah Jones + Ice + sleep = good.

He is. He was really calm and did all the right things and didn't touch me (which is great because that ALWAYS makes things worse) and he was very compassionate. I said "I would apologize, but there wasn't really much I could do." and he said "You don't have to, I know what I signed up for." *squee!*

Thanks!

Yeah, I had planned to but her CD "The Fall" yesterday at Barnes and Noble, but they didn't have it at mine.
