Thumbs up Gotta compliment BBC

I was watching the News on BBC last night (I'm a bit of a news junkie) & before going to the scene of a story they warned that there was a lot of flash photography. I'm assuming it was to prevent triggering seizures in viewers.

I watch news from all over N. America as well as the BBC & I've never seen any of them (or any other show for that matter) warn of flashing lights. I'm just impressed enough I felt I had to show my respects.

That is great, I have never seen that on any show. There are times I have to turn my head quickly!

I have been watching the BBC channels since I was a kiddie, as far back as I can remember they have announced if scenes or programmes are not suitable for people with photosensitive epilepsy. On the news they always say "this next report contains flashing images, so people who are photosensitive please look away now"

More channels should make these announcements.

Since you were a kiddie? We really are behind, aren't we? Or maybe BBC is just really ahead.

Useful info, just in case you don't know, or for those of you who don't

The BBC is a UK network of tv channels and radio stations, they have been broadcasting for donkeys of years here. They only recently set up the News 24 channel and launched it worldwide, I am not sure when, but I would say within the last 10 years.

BBC stands for - British Broadcasting Corporation

The first broadcast was back in the 1920's (and no, I wasn't there watching it)

I grew up with the BBC, they certainly kept me amused as a kid, as far as I can remember they always announced before tv shows and movies about photosensitive epilepsy, the news has been doing it more recently, maybe 3 or 4 years??? something like that, time goes so quick

History lesson over

I just thought of something else about UK TV.

Our channel 5 is very good for warning about flash photography etc on the news readings.

Our Satellite channels have been giving photosenstive warnings before tv shows and movies as well since I was young.

Eric -In Canada do you get warnings about TV shows and movies?

I watch BBC at times too....and that is something that I've really enjoyed about their news program. The fact that they do actually give a warning.

I've never seen any sort of warning re. photosensitivity on any TV shows or movies anywhere. That's why I was so impressed with BBC. We do get warnings of coarse language, violence, sexuality etc. though.

Wow I never would have thought that Canada didn't get any warnings. We get them before all movies and shows that contain flashing images.

Our satellite broadcasting network (sky) has now come up with a new option, where if you press a button your remote, it says yes or no to photosensitivity content.

Can anybody answer if the U.S. has a warning announcement in place??

I don't have satellite so I just double checked with both satellite providers. Not only do neither of them carry any sort of option for photosensitive people but I had to explain to them both what photosensitive is. I've got to admit though it didn't really surprise me.

It is even on our Satellite's website

Eric -

Here is a link to our sky (satellite) network to do with photosensitivity, it is there new venture, so as well as making the announcement at the beginning of the movies, you can also check it for yourself by using their new remote control option.

That is so cool! I"m bookmarking it to show people. Maybe we can lobby the local cable & satellite companies to get the same option.

Just carrying on the subject -

I went and saw Watchmen last night at the cinema, which was a very good film. BUT it is one of the worst movies I have ever seen for flashing images and for this there was no warning. Normally our cinemas lay on the PSE warning. On this occasion I was very disappointed in them.

SHOCKING

not here

We get no warning on this side of the pond.
Coarse language, gross scenes and the like, yes. I really think that flashing images are there as a sort of light hypnotic suggestion about something, cuz some of our tv ads flash a lot.

Most of our music channels (only MTV is bad) show a warning at the start of music videos as well. OH and cheers for that link Crazy Monkey, I'didn't know about that. HOW COOL?! OH and just to add...my baby brother (he's 18 lol) is moving to your neck of the woods on sunday as he starts at Norwich Uni to do Natural Sciences.

Hmmmm, I'd

like to watch the BBC Channel to see if it's as cool as you all make it out to be. So far, I don't have it here. I'd LOVE it if the local cable company would put the photosensitivity warning up on the screen.
