Had a lovely chat with E nurse today

She called to see how i was doing after my appointment with the neurologist, since i hadn't been in contact with her.

We had a good long chat about perhaps trying Vimpat (Lacosamide) as well as my 3000mg keppra a day, to try and get my partials under control. We weighed up the pros and cons and decided to give it a go, but she's suggested i start at a very low dose and then work up slowly until i'm on 200mg a day, since i'm petrified of side effects.

Since i'm off work sick at the moment, i figured it's as good a time as any to start it. I have a doc's appointment on saturday to discuss insomnia and through-the-roof stress levels, so i'll go see him then.

I was wondering... I've heard that Vimpat can cause blurriness or double vision - i wear glasses for everything except reading up close and was wondering if i should go get my eyes checked before i start on this medication. I'm due a test in a couple of months time, but i wouldn't want to go for my eye test with blurry meds-vision and then end up with the wrong strength glasses.

We also talked about how things are going at work and that i feel like i'm ready to work full time again, but i don't think i could cope in the job that i'm in. Well, i just applied for a job with the same sort of company, but a mon-fri desk job in Admin instead. Not exactly what i want to do, but practical, reliable and do-able lol.

Everyone should have one of these nurses, especially since actually getting hold of my NHS neurologist is a nightmare!

Wow... that nurse sounds great! Let's clone her.

I'm extremely glad to hear that you feel ready to work again. That is wonderful!

Loopy Lou, can you send us one of the nurses to North Carolina? She sounds like really cares about you. Count your blessings on having her as a nurse.

Have a great week!

she really is a god send, and the only person i feel i can talk to freely and ask stupid questions about my epilepsy, and talk about my fears and worries with openly (except maybe for this forum). Endless - i do still have a job, i've just been signed off sick for a few weeks. Alas, only one week to go til i go back. I defo need a new, full time one i can handle though lol.

I will keep my fingers crossed that the other job comes through for you, even if it isn't exactly what you want to do. Less stress is much better! I have been on 200mgs of Vimpat with 2500 of Keppra, and haven't noticed any eye problems at all, or anything else. Let's just say nothing different. I still have tiredness off and on, but who doesn't?? Good luck!

Well, i've decided i definately want to give it a go. The Keppra seems to be mostly controlling the tonic clonics, i had one a couple of weeks ago, but before that i didn't have one for about 3 months.

Apparently Vimpat is good at helping with partials and absences.
