Has anyone been prescribed Prednisone to treat their Epilepsy?

A book I bought (Partial Seizure Disorders) mentions using steroid anti-inflammatory drugs to treat seizures. Has anyone here on the forum ever been prescribed steroid anti-inflammatory drugs to treat their seizures?

And yes I did see Robin's article on inflammation and seizures. I have always wondered if the adrenalin released when we are constantly stressed causes inflammation in the brain and that is the reason we have seizures when we are stressed.

I have only heard negative outcome to taking Prednisone, long term.
Not to say that there might be some uses... I am just into the more natural approaches.

Even small amounts of vitamin D, about 500 IU, lowered inflammation by more than 25 percent in a small group of critically ill patients. Another marker of inflammation (IL-6) was reduced even more.

These fats have also been found, by many animal and clinical studies, to have anti-inflammatory properties, indicating that they might be beneficial to managing diseases such as coronary heart disease, depression and cancer. Omega-3 fats many also help with aging.

Clinical trials have also assessed the benefits of supplementing the diet with fish oils and results showed a decrease in diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, psoriasis, lupus erythematosus, multiple sclerosis and migraine headaches.

's Far as i know , i'm with Robin. Steroids will make things worse long term , while they may help in the short term. If you want to reduce your chances of inflammation , try anti oxidants like Vit E,C&D or other changes in your diet. It's not prudent to mess with steroids. They can cause cataracts, kidney damage, low sugar levels , reduce your immunity to disease, hypertension and bone problems , not to mention screw up a diagnosis for the doctor treating you as steroids mask the signs of inflammation and you may wind up being treated for the wrong thing should you get ill later. Steroids are pretty much a last resort in medicine except in a few diseases ( where they are the treatment of choice) and in dermatology where topical steroids are the mainstay of treatment.

Prednisone

I found this old post about Prednisone. Interesting....

I'm on prednisone for a week or so for pre-operative treatment. It's supposed to make the surgery go better - reduced swelling and less bleeding.

Wow, though. Prednisone before anti-epileptic drug's made me a crazy women. I avoided it like the plague. Now, it just gives me oodles of nice, calm energy. I feel almost like my old self. It makes me remember how I used to be before all these anti-seizure meds. I was thinking Trileptal and Lamictal had me licked.

Before the prednisone, tired, depressed, memory problems, foggy thinking, achy joints, etc. If you missed my prolific posts over the last 4-5 days, it's because my vision had become so blurry it was too uncomfortable to see to use the computer much.

Now with prednisone, a lot of this has cleared up. It's a miracle. I can think, I have energy, I remember lists and why I walked into a room. I can actually think through things and solve problems. This morning I hooked up a DVR! Even though my vision is still blurry, I can still see better than I could. I'm still kinda depressed, but you can't have everything. I know I can't take this stuff long term, but I think I'm in love. I love prednisone almost as much as I love my dog.

If prednisone helped my side effects from Trileptal/Lamictal this much, I wonder if it means I have some kind of hormonal imbalance from the anti-seizure meds? I'm taking all the usual supplements, so I know missing a vitamin/other isn't it.

Anybody else gotten these amazing results from prednisone & had a positive effect on their side effects?
