I was diagnosed with epilepsy 1 year ago. I suffered 7 years before I was diagnosed. I still have a lot of unanswered questions. I have headaches almost everyday. But never had them before that. I also have memory loss of the day I had my first tonic-clonic. I never got it back. The only thing I can say is be a listener for him. I'm sure he is terrified but wants to be strong for you so you dont worry.

I moved you to the foyer since the message you replied to was a couple of years old & I don't think that member has been around for a couple of years, besides it would be nice to meet you & learn more about your situation.

Like I said, I was born with epilepsy, mostly partials but I've had a few tonic/clonics. I've been on tons of different pills for it but am just on Tegretol with the occasional Ativan (Lorazepam) right now. It lessens them so I don't have any T/C's but I haven't found a good control for them yet.

As far as headaches go, many years ago that I used to get a lot of them as well. The neurologist told me that if it's a steady pain, like a pressure and it doesn't pound or throb then it's a neurological headache.

Unfortunately, I think a lot of people go undiagnosed with simple partial seizures for years because they just don't recognize them as seizures. There isn't enough awareness/education about seizures in the general public and most people only think about tonic clonics (aka grand mals) when they hear the word seizure.

It's still there. Your recall program may be disfunctional right now, but the memories are still there. My wife went through a similar process, though much more extreme. There was a point where she was having severe seizure activity and she was a literally just existing - not "living". She would nap all day long on the couch (she didn't have energy to do much else) and could not speak a coherent sentence or remember the names of our children.

Once we got the seizures under control and she was training with neurofeedback, her cognitive functions (and memory) slowly started returning to normal.

That was me. I didn't know for sure what was wrong with me for years and wondered if everybody felt like I did. Now that I have been diagnosed and think back, I know I was having simple seizures. Welcome to the forum. This is a great bunch of people here!

Hi W & M! Welcome to CWE. The memories your missing are still there. Just think of your memory as a file cabinet. Short term memories are things you use everyday. So your brain reaches into those files frequently. The long term memories are things that are buried in the file cabinet...cross referenced...and not always referred to. So you might forget those things.... I've had memory issues too. But, I did find that taking 1000 mg. of fishoil helped my memory alot. Hope this helps.

Hi there and welcome. I have had tonic-clonic seizures with some memory loss for awhile. I agree with skille...it's just cross-referenced somewhere up there. For me, it's amazing how things will just pop into my head----it even takes my husband a minute to adjust when I pop out with something that I "thought" I forgot. Yet, vitamins have helped a ton with this!

My seizures present mostly as Ictal Headache, which is kind of rare. You may be suffering from post-ictal headache or a co-morbid Migraine condition. Talk to your doc about getting you on Verapamil or adding Depakote.

I have eye problems as well and my eye doc says that my optic nerve may be swolen because of the symptoms I have. I don't want anymore meds. I hate taking them as it is. I have tried to stop them, but everytime I do I gave tonic-clonics in my sleep. I have had 6 total only one when I was awake.

Are you taking any medication?
My daughter had terrible vision issues with one of her medications. The doctor did not want to believe it was related. After she was off that med for about a month, she never had that side effect again.

After I have a tonic-clonic, complex partial is when I have a bad headache.
I always have a bad headache when I fall hard hit my head on something.

When you say that you've tried to stop them, do you mean your meds?? If so, please know that stopping meds suddenlly can trigger more and more violent seizures. Never stop meds suddenly and without the approval of your doctor.

You can do more damage than good by stopping meds.

I know. I figured that out the hard way. I just hate taking meds. I dont even take things for pain: tylonol or nothing. I'll take vitamins though.
