Question hey not sure where to post this one

I have a 5 day EEG coming up at the end of this month, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what its like to admit yourself into a hospital, the last time I was admitted I was 13 and woke up in the ICU. Thankfully it wont be like that this time, my sister will be staying with me so I'll have someone to chat with.

I'm nervous the only other time's I've had an EEG has been sleep depraved and a 24 hour(once when they where first going on).

Mine was only 3 days but it was a little scary but boring at the same time. They lowered the dose of my meds to the point where they really weren't effective. I spent the day in a hospital bed in front of a camera so that they could see & analyze exactly what happens to me during a seizure.

I'd say bring a walkman or MP3 player with your favourite music & something to read while your there.

Hopefully this will be a productive & informative few days in hospital.

I had a five day one, it was pretty dull. the problem with mine was mine I mostly noise and stress related. in the hospital it was quiet an i was well fed and relaxed the entire time. so I did have a seizure the entire time.

got a lot of computer work done.

oh, and you have to be able to sit in one place, I cant really so it was an issue the first few days.

Definitely bring books, magazines, computer -- whatever will keep you entertained while you are cooped up. You might be allowed to go to a lounge depending on your hospital's policies, but for the most part you'll be cooped up. And usually they don't allow you to wash your hair.

thank you for the info. my sister is saying that she is bringing a camara so she can get lots of pictures, the hospital is letting me bring dvd's and they'll have a dvd player there.

the down side is that I will have to have a nurse in the bath room with me, whenever its time to go.

Mine have

always been ambulatory, sorry I can't help you here. The beginning of a few of them have been in my neurologist's office, and videotaped, but the rest of it is aways done on an ambulatory basis, which I think is just as much of a pain in the ARSE. Going out in public with that thing on is EMBARRASSING.......

I desided to reschedule it for the beginning of may and not right after thanksgiving.

Well the day after I called the neurologist to get the new date, I had a seizure(the day before thanksgiving).

Cher,

Wow, 5 days. I could barely make the 24 hour one. I tend to squirm a lot. I had two 24 hour video EEG's but didn't have a nurse with me in the bathroom. I had a seizure in the bathroom with my last video EEG and I told the nurse that. She didn't really seem to concerned when I told her until I had one in front of her and then she had someone come and check on me every 15 minutes after that. It scared the daylights out of her.

Glad to that someone is going with you. Hopefully she can spring for some real food for you every now and again so you don't have to eat just hospital food. Yuck!

its a video room that I'll be in, my sister was joking about bringing the xbox 360 with her, I told her that I don't think that they would let you bring that because of the seizure warning's on all of the games so she said "fine then, I'll take it into another room" we joke around alot with each other(we still share a room)

shes seen me right before, during and after seizures so I give her alot of room after we get home from the ER.

finally went though the 5 day but now the doctor is saying that I should've stayed 5 more since there was no "event" I couldn't go though that, with mothers day this weekend.

She didn't look surprised this time, so the next one(date to come) will be a ten day(oh joy), but with some of my family having bad backs and one working 2 jobs its gonna be VERY hard to do that, I wish there was another way.

next time I'll ask for the dvd player the first day.

If you know of something that triggers your seizures I would say go for it. I've done the EEG a bunch of times and now I'm in an out in since I usually use the 1st 2 days to just kick back and relax (watch movies, catch up on some of my books) and the 3rd day I'll trigger a seizure.

I tried that the first day by not sleeping(that gets it going), and the doctor took almost all the meds away by the second day.

nothing like watching super troopers and rat race in a bed praying to go home.
