How bad is YOUR handwriting?

I'm getting to the point where I can't even read my own handwriting any more. It's not just about "shaking and quaking," it's just that I don't seem to have a connection between my brain, manual dexterity and writing.

If it weren't for word processors, I'd be sunk. (Ironically, I'm a writer!)

P.S. I can't spell for beans either...spellcheck is my savior. And proofreading.

Printing is nice, but my cursive is not in the least.

It used to be really nice and neat *My grandma taught me how to handwrite at 5, like an old lady* and now its loopy and messy and I'll skip letters or just half scribble it. I'd rather print, but then if I want to write fast I scribble.

Lately though with my hand shaking so much since being on Dilantin, my printing is a little sucky too. sad, because my hand writing often looked just like typing. uniform and even. sans serif of course...

I still write old-fashioned snailmail letters, so I have to keep my handwriting in shape.

Rae, I gave up script for cursive, hoping people would at least be able to read that. However, even that became illegible with time.

what's script vs cursive? I'm thinking handwriting vs printing for me. printing= good, handwriting= bad. lol

in the poll Eric directed us too, not one person chose that epilepsy/anti-epileptic drug/Surgery/VNS has improved their writing. only decreased or not changed. but decrease is the majority.

Wink

Oh, it's script vs. printing. They used to call it "cursive" way back when I was in school. (The midde ages!)

That poll Eric directed us to was wonderful. And really revealing!

My parents' generation (and older) all have lovely script handwriting. I think hardly anyone writes like that now.

My girlfriends who went to Catholic schools have the BEST handwriting of all. (Of course, they don't have epilepsy!)

To put it simply - If I had to physically write to be here, I wouldn't be here. Writing is slow for me. Usually all capitals and not very neat.

Mine changes from day to day. Sometimes it's pretty neat, other times it looks like a spider has fallen into an ink pot and stumbled its way across the page :P

If I take my time and really concentrate it isn't too bad except for misspellings and dyslexia (I didn't have this problem until I started taking meds), it can at least be read although I have noticed it has deteriorated with the increased doesage of lamictal If I'm in a hurry, no one can read it, including myself, lol. After I have a seizure, my writing is HUGE, wobbly and doesn't make a whole lot of sense for a couple of days. You can see the changes in my diary.

Hi Ed here
Shakes Oy i don't believe it. With the advent of Divalproex, sleeping meds, and Benzo's my writing looked like a chicken had walked over the page and i have to chart every shift. If i added Caffeine to the mix and i did, it was scary. Ergo ditch the sleeping meds Benzos and sigh, caffeine. I have returned to some form of normalicy. Note the word some.
Best wishes on your journey

Oy. You should see what my checks look like. I only hope they'll be able to read the numbers, skip the written amount! And there's a small memory problem: Sometimes I forget to sign them!

Mine is not good either, but my typing is fast. Maybe I need to practice writing more. I know my hand shakes sometimes, but I have not been able to connect this to medicine.
