| I would assume that the more active you are the faster you metabolise everything you ate, including the sweeteners. Increasing your water intake & making sure you're hydrated also helps your body to process things.

| I have excessive thirst and drink a minimum of 5 litres of water a day because of that, so can't really drink anymore. I've not been that active lately, cos I started losing my energy (used to do 60 + bike rides no problem, then it decreased gradually to struggling with two mile rides). |

| When was the last time you ate a lot of food with artificial sweeteners in it? Sometimes the longer you go without eating a particular food/additive, the worse it is the next time you have it. You might want to consider taking a taurine supplement -- it can help if you're body has "overdosed" on glutamate (which aspartate can be metabolized into). |

| I got online and tried to find info on the half life of Sucralose (Splenda), and Aspertame (Nutrasweet) in the human body. Lots of hype and urban legends out there, very little science. I found a couple sites who cited scientific research published in reputable peer-review journals. Unfortunately, those scientifically-based articles didn't say what the half life is inside the body. Only outside of it. There were some rather dodgy sites that had some psudo-science that quoted the half life in the body, and they quoted "studies" that I couldn't find anywhere (to confirm the studies' existance and review the methodology to make sure they were a decent study). Anyway, not saying the solid scientific data doesn't exist, just saying I couldn't find it. Somebody somewhere in the scientific community has got to know the half life in the human body. Maybe emailing Monsanto (nutrasweet) and McNeil (splenda) and asking them would get the data? P.S. I did find the half life of methanol, which is what Splenda is metabolized into inside the body. But I don't think that answers the question. |

| I am not sure where I read this, but I do remember the info that simple sugars can stay in your system for about 2 weeks.

| Thanks all.
I didn't eat any more sweeteners till the 21st after that, that was to make sure something showed up on the EEG. Will try the taurine idea if you can buy them in the UK next time I need to use sweeteners, but don't feel well enough to go out today. Last edited by davidmc; 12-30-2010 at 06:51 PM. |
