Cool I bit my tongue this early morning.

This morning, I was off to sleep, just drowsy, and I bit my tongue at the end, suddenly woke up... anyone else done this?

Billy.

Ouchies! On occasions I do wake up in the morning with a sore tongue (but normally on the side - not the front) and end up with an ulcers on the inside of my cheek where I have probably been having a nocturnal snack (ewww). Hope your tongue feels better soon

ugh!!!... all the time. Took a while to figure out what was going on. Tried a mouth guard and was afraid of swallowing it. Might wanna try it, my husband keeps his in all night and it doesn't bother him. (He grinds his teeth. I grind my tongue.) I get the ulcers too.

Um, I

tend to chew the SIDES of my tongue. Sometimes all the way through, if I have a T/C (mine are nocturnal). I will occasionally bite the tip of my tongue if I'm concentrating on something too hard, though...

Thanks for the replies, it was like a nibble on my tongue, my jaws clamped down fast.

Hmm I've only had that problem once. The beginning of this month I realized why my tongue hurt after taking a look. Apparently I bit it pretty hard on the side but I don't remember it happening.

For me it is always the first sign that I've had a nocturnal tonic clonic. I had some on Christmas eve/Christmas morning and my tongue still hurts.

But my jaw has twiched while I'm awake before and bit my tongue that way. not related to seizures.

I bite my tongue too much myself. I also grind my teeth real bad. I have almost grinded through my two front teeth with the two on the bottom, any more and I might not have any teeth in the front.

I'm in the midst of changing neurologist, the one I have now only sees me every 3-6 months, I need to be seen at least once every month.

Hi Honey

I've bitten my bloody tongue more times than I care to even think about!! I've got a new problem, since my last surgery, because they have to cut through the trigeminal nerve around the face, every time I eat a meal, I bite my back teeth together, and then take a chunk out of the inside of my cheek on the right side, OOOUUUUCCCHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! I get so mad when I do it because I am not a masochist, and I don't like causing myself pain lol, it just makes me so angry, and my eyes water!!!
I've done what you are doing too, bitten my tongue in my sleep, not for a long time but do mention it to your doc eh?!

Elaine, Hi

I see a Specialist soon, I did mention it to my Doctor, he said he was sending me to a Specialist in neurologist.
I have also bit the inside of my cheek.

Thanks

Billy

Sleep Seizers "Epilepsy" Bite Tongue in Sleep

Hi, I hope you have spoken to your Doctor? Your having night seizers “Epilepsy” – they would happen to me if I had a heavy night on the wine or not a lot of sleep. I saw a specialist who put me on Lamotrigine tablets for 10 years, I only had two seizers within that time. Last year I asked my Specialist if I could start coming off them as I went six years without any seizers.

It’s been one year off Lamotrigine and I had a seizer in my sleep last night (my tongue is so sore). I’m not too worried as the Doctor said if I only have the odd seizer and they are well spaced out there is no need to go back on tablets. Night epilepsy doesn’t affect you driving so you won’t lose your licence – if a seizer happens when your awake the DVLA will take your licence. But don’t worry Epilepsy has many forms and night seizers is a mild form, many people have this problem and don’t know it’s sleep seizers.

Best of luck!

Yes Billy, I often bite my tongue as dosing into sleep, during interrupted sleep or as I wake up

Is this an epilepsy thing or do other people do it? Once a week for the past few months I wake up because I bite my cheek. I'm not convinced I have epilepsy although the doctor has put me on epilim for a grand mal.

I used to bite my tongue quite frequently when I had seizures. Now it's more the cheek after I have a seizure or when I'm sleeping. I could do without, but to be honest biting my tongue was much more painful.

Yes, I have bitten my tongue more times then I care to remember. I have lines on both sides of my tongue where my teeth have created a permanent and everlasting mark. Every seizure I have my tongue is punished! I have also bitten my tongue as I doze off to sleep sometimes.
