| Rebecca was given bio-identical progesterone cream from her neurologist that specializes in female issues. I can't say it helped her seizures but Rebecca had terrible spider veins on the inside of her thighs at the age of 14. No doctor suggested the reason. Looking it up on the internet, said that it was cause sometimes because of estrogen dominance. Using the progesterone cream cleared that problem up. She also began to improve her seizure control about that time, but I was not able to rely on Rebecca to use the cream twice a day. I was overwhelmed with "everything" and decided it was worse to have an on/off use of this hormone. It was one treatment that I had to let go for a while. We might try it again, since her seizures are controlled these days. She has very difficult time, feeling ill, during her period. I am thinking that the progesterone now would help those symptoms. Good luck... keep a journal

| You might be interested in this link: http://www.epilepsy.com/info/women_pcos There definitely seems to be a connection between PCOS and epilepsy. They're not sure whether it's causal, correlative, and/or the meds play a role. I think the progesterone-only birth control sounds like a good step to try. Let us know if it helps! |

| Im probably not much help, but I wanted to let you know I also have Epilepsy, complex partial seizures in my left temporal lobe. And I was told I had PCOS when I was 18 years old. Ive had cysts as big as golf balls that have ruptured and landed me in the ER. Ive been on the Patch, The Pill, and I believe one other Birth Control, Im just trying to think back to what it was. The pill is what worked best for me. At the time, I didnt know that being on my seizure meds with the pill would not make the pill as effective, thats how we got pregnant with our first son. But since having three little boys, my periods have been regular, ever 28 days I have one. My dr who I see, is a specialist in women reproductive and said its common to see women who after getting pregnant, for some reason it regulates their menstrual cycle and they dont have as many problems as they had before. Im not on any birth control now. My husband had a vasectomy done a few years ago. Were done having kids. I do still take glucophage XR though. I take 1500 mgs of that (3 pills) a day, right before my dinner. Its helped alot with controling my weight, and also with most pcos symptoms. I wish I could help more on the birth control issue, but I just wanted to let you know you are not alone in this. It sucks having to deal with PCOS, But ive found being on the Glucophage has made things much much easier on me. Hang in there! |
