I want to get some people together to swim the Catalina Channel

I've always been a strong ocean swimmer. My epilepsy has always been under control enough that it never kept me from being able to swim. Twice before I have done the Alcatraz swim. A friend and I were talking about getting 6 people together to swim the Catalina Channel. (Under the Catalina Channel rules you have to swim it alone or with a total of 6 people) Then I thought why not get 5 other people who have their epilepsy under control together and see if the epilepsy foundation would sponsor it. I just thought it would be a cool way to show that people with epilepsy can do anything anyone else can do. I haven't talked to the epilepsy foundation about the idea yet but I probably will in the near future.

That sounds FUN!!!! I wish I were in good enough shape, and a strong enough swimmer!!!! I'd be there in a heartbeat if I were....

Good luck, and have fun, too!

Great idea and very original. That would be worth some media coverage. Rooting for you all the way.

How long of a swim is that?

I might be able to handle the swimming, but a trip to Catalina would be pretty cost prohibitive for me.

Thumbs up

COOL!

I once was a swimmer and diver,
I would have joined you, but I can't.

However, I'm sure there's others out
there who are able to! That would be
awesome if you are able to raise up
money and grab up media attention
and spread forth the awareness!

People like you ROCK in going all out
to the extremes to make it worthwhile
and to prove it all! GO FOR IT!

Hi forward2007,

I live in California in the Central Valley. I know it is beautiful in San Diego and Catalina Island. You are great at sports. I am glad to hear that.

If I lived down there, I would be swimming. It would just be in a swimming pool, though. I am not an athlete like you are. I remember when I was a teenager, Jack Lalanne would swim to Alcratraz Island. I hope I spelled his name right. He is 90 years old and still working. He is selling juicer's on TV, now. Stay active and you will live a long life.

Hi Forward,

Are the fires in Southern California affecting you from going swimming? It is a horrible fire. There is a hurricane called jimena that they are hoping will come close enough to put out the fires. It will be a Tropical Storm if it even gets close to where you are swimming.

I wish I could be a part of your swimming team. I am just not athletic enough.

Sounds like a great challenge. Many moons ago I would have been interested. Rebecca doesn't swim much. She is more fascinated with frozen water.

I wish Catalina weren't so far away I would do it in a heartbeat, I have live around lake Erie my entire life and grew up around water. I know I have other issues to tend to like paying for my meds but maybe it would help. Maybe there is something to live for and a way to help others.
