Jacksonian Seizures

Well, I only just came across this term in another post here and began to wonder if that is what i'm experiencing. I sometimes experience a burning and tingling sensation (usually in my hands), have uncontrolled muscle twitches and on one or two occasions I know that i've had uncontrolled head movement too. I did a google search and from my limited knowledge this may be what i'm experiencing. I'm on Epilim so my neurologist told me that the twitches may or may not be a side effect of it and isn't too worried because they remain minor. What do others think - does this sound like possible Jacksonian seizures???

Oh yeah, recently (this month) i've had several occasions where I experience a numbness and tingling sensation around my lower lip and chin area.

I, too have a burning, tingling and numbness sensation in my hands and feet several times a day. Two 1/2 weeks ago when I had a grand mal, right before I began seizing I experienced extreme burning, tingling and numbness in my left hand. I just began Keppra 1000mgs a day in April 2010 after being on Tegretol for about 20 years. Has anyone else experienced this? I thought it was a side effect of the Keppra or neuropathy. It is extremely painful. I have an appt at an epilepsy center coming up shortly, hopefully they will be able to figure out what it is. I will keep you posted.

Tingling and other strong sensations in the hands are pretty common seizure auras. Tingling can be a side effect of meds, but that fact that you had it right before the seizure points more to it being an aura.

Are you taking a B-Vitamin supplement? Sometimes that can help.

Jacksonian seizures aren't a specific seizure symptom like tingling, (although it does often manifest as tingling) 'Jacksonian' seizures are seizures that spread by 'marching' (often referred to as Jacksonian marching). They start in a single, focal motor or sensory region (resulting in tingling or jerking corresponding the affected area) that travels to the nearby regions which presents as a spreading of the sensation or jerking (up the arm, for example) and to additional parts of the body.

Thanks ajax. I did manage to come across something that described a jacksonian seizure, just as you did - even showed a video of it so I know that's definitely what i've experienced,
