Keppra alone?

Is it possible to go on keppra alone for tonic clonic sezures? On leaflets it states it's to be used with another med

My doc might take me off tegretol which I'm happy at just a little scared to be on keppra alone! Any advice?

I was on Keppra XR and Cabatrol ER for years together. If I recall, at the age of 17/18 years old is when I was put on those two together. I am now 31. Then after my video EEG in march 2011, I was taken off both medications for the video EEG, and put back on Keppra XR. Since then, Im only taking the Keppra XR. I take it twice a day, 1500mgs in the AM, 1500mgs in the PM, Total of 3000mgs a day. Works great for me! The last time I had a T/C was in 2001. Ive had alot of simple partials since, but the Keppra XR controlls all my seizures pretty well.

I am only on keppra now as I haven't been able to tolerate any other meds. I am having far fewer tonic clonic's but I've also made major dietary and lifestyle changes. I still have too many partials tho, imho.

Many Neuros I saw refused to think Keppra can be used to stop seizures by itself. I think it really depends on the person. Try not to be to afraid of the drug changes when they happen, it can be rough but you can always pull through. I am on a really odd mix right now. Valium and Keppra. It was kind of on accident but works well for me now. My meds will change too, so I know the nervous feeling. All the best Hands!
