Hello everyone- I am on Keppra- 1000mg a day- and now pregnant. Super exciting, but I am also very scared. My previous pregnancy resulted in a very gifted son, but I wasn't on any medication (tapered off depakote through first month). I dealt with constant myoclonic jerks, and at 40 weeks a grand mal. I would never go off medicine again for a pregnancy- I now realize how dangerous that was for both my son and I. I'm very interested in hearing stories from women who have had children while on Keppra. Most of what I have been reading seems good, an advice? Thanks.

I was on 3000mgs of Keppra and 1200mgs of Carbatrol through out all three of my pregnancies. I had all healthy babies. My first baby, I didnt find out til I was almost 3 months along, and was even on birth control pills, and other medications. I was really freaked out! I have PCOS, so taking Glucophage XR for that, along with the two seizure medications and birth control. But he turned out fine, and for a second grader, he is testing at a fifth grade level! He just had his IQ tested this week. :)

Hi,
I was taking 2000 mg of Keppra twice a day and 125 mg of Lamictal twice a day when I was pregnant with my daughter and my seizures were controlled. She's supposed to start Kindergarten this year but is going into first grade instead. She's a very bright little girl. Your dose is a lower dose than mine and momof3boys was so hopefully everything will be alright. Best wishes and God bless you.

Thanks for the links, Nakamova, the best wishes, Cordero and the hope Momof3boys (birth control pills, too- wow, those didn't work! :) I am much more optimistic- any advice is much appreciated- I take prenatals, b12 w/ folic and melatonin with the kep.

I cant recall how much folic acid I was taking, but I know my OB dr had increased it because I was on two seizure medications. Have you ran that by a OB dr to see what amount would be best for you?
