All the meds my daughter tried increased her seizures.
I now feel, since finding out there was a blood sugar issue, that the increase in toxins in the body was lowering her seizure threshold. Perhaps just too much for the body to process.

it sure did it to me ! i had been on lamictal ( name brand ) and my insurance didnt want to pay for it so my doc switched it to generic & when he did whoa ... seizures one after the other & it didnt ease up ... switched back to name brand and they eased up again , of course now im not on either of them but YESSSSS! no good

This is a risk with most/any seizure med. When I started Keppra (which is a really low-risk med), my generalized seizures decreased in frequency, but my partials increased significantly.

I seem to be worst but their conscience impulse seizures

I went on this med as a "last resort" since I don't qualify for surgery.
I have a brain deformity from birth,"temporal lobe schzencephaly";
It doesn't affect intelligence, reasoning, making me a miracle baby.
But these meds have caused some pretty irresistible impulses from
my complex partial seizures while I'm semi comscience. The worst
is undressing myself in public, which will definitely draw a crowd,
Trust Me. So please anyone have any advice for this other than
Being a home bound hermit?
Bottom line on this med is its ok from a study standpoint but for me
it leaves me in a preaura statte wondering if a seizure is really truly
Starting or not at times, and for me once is really to much. Thanks!

Any chance you could try neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback?????????? Like something TENS??????? Please explain this it really
sounds interesting to me,ok?

I am not the only one having this problem with lamotrigine? Thank goodness(not that it is actually good) I do think though taking meds I should not have a single seizure, no matter what I take it does nothing, talking to a brain surgeon now.... :(

Its supposed to be such a good drug but it does not work for my daughter, Our specialist recommends nothing but going on valproic acid as well as the useless lamotrigine. My daughter has never had a seizure after consuming alcohol. As a matter of fact she felt lousy all day saturday and then had a couple of drinks with friends and felt much better. I know that the doctors all say that alcohol lowers the seizure but just curious as to why she felt so much better after having a drink? Not encouraging this just curious?

Hi
Can't really tell you why alcohol does that, but I can add it works with me too.
My doctors frown but if I need to be better and totally seizure free for some
reason,like a meeting with my care provider,social worker,ect. I found from
an act of desperation with my MS and seizures, drinking a couple fingers of
Rum and coke or water keeps me going problem free for six to eight hours.
However, once it wears off it makes me feel like Supergirl next to some
Kyptomite. Just be careful it doesn't mix well with most seizure meds, and
we need her here making you feel loved for a long time.

I hear you. Just goes to show how little they seem to know about epilepsy. It's starting to feel like a guessing game. Thanks for the input.

"Diane"
Hoping what I said helps,I won't encourage it,but just say if it does that
much good with outcomes reasearch it. And if its monitored to prevent abuse, people in
the eighteen hundreds did it so consider it possible medication.
I think the mechanics might have something to do with the alcohol making
her/my brain so sedated it can't go into the hyper state required for a
Seizure to develop. Does this seem to make sense? It seems right after all
its a well known fact its a depressant/sedative. That's the why we get the
drunk symptoms,we're just becoming extremely sedated. I'm praying for youall

Thanks again, On one hand I want to tell her not to drink at all, but then if it occasionally makes her feel like she isn't living in a fog...and she doesn't have a seizure what can I say...I guess that is why marajuana works for some peoople with epilepsy. I am considering putting her in an epilepsy clinic where they stay for 5-10 days and she would be hooked up to check brain waves for the entire time. Just not sure what to do. Wish there was another drug for her without all the shitty side effects. Thanks for listening.

Hi,again : )

I think you mentioned Depakote,if not its worth exploring get you daughter
involved. I took it as a teen, the kewl thing was I had the option of using the
"Sprinkle" version that went on your food. So it went down without any
problems, complications. And taking it with food kept it from slamming me hard.
And one other was "dilantin", just don't get stuck with the generic, that's worst
then the seizures. Has just horrible side effects. I'll be praying for you n her.
