| Thanx Petox! Teach me something more please! Marion- I am really happy for u! Well begun is half done!! Mind is not that easy to be tamed dear......................it takes time! So keep going! I am practicing from more than a month, but still sometimes my mind like a naughty child wants to play its games only! See Marion, while meditating, behave like a mother, u know when the child does something which is not intended to be done, the first thing a mother does is- persuading the child with all love and affection, then she gives little bribes........like do this, u will get a candy and the last thing is being really harsh and scolding. Try all this! Firstly.........persuade the ming gently, then try these little bribes....... like in the morning I tell my brain if u meditate properly, I will give u 10 min rest and after meditation i just lay down for 10 min and that rest means a lot. And if the mind wanders a lot i make it realize and remember what all happened when it was untamed. Asking Gog for help does magic! Hey did u follow the preliminary steps????? They mean a lot! Atleast u can try. And as fer is anulom-vilom it can be done both with eyes open or closed- depends how u feel good! Dont stop meditating...............have patience and see the results. And share with us also. And dear readers I am also new, tell me the facts u know and correct me if I am wrong! Shagun |

| Shagun - With your encouragement, I just did another try at meditation, this one for 18 minutes. I set a timer and don't know or think about how long I've been going until I finish. The way you write about it, it' s amazing that you've only been meditating for a little over a month. I keep playing with my mind to try to stop the chatter, or at least lessen it. I tried picturing something - a candle - and keeping the picture going. That helped on and off, but my mind can keep going, even when I keep a picture in my head. Then I accopmanied the picture with a simple tune, and for the short time I could keep that, it did kick away the chatter. So maybe that's a beginning. I've been thinking of doing this for well over a year, so thank you for getting me to finally start. -m |

| Marion! I am happy for u! I tried a lot of times to meditate before also but ....... all in vain, but this time things are turning out well. See 21 days is the period in which a habit is formed. Its the time in which the neural pathways establish an activity as a routine. If u do it regularly for 21 days, on the 22nd day u need not force urself to do the thing. U will start loving it! And 18 min is a good timing. I started with 5 minutes...........so congrats!! A little chatter is unavoidable in the beginning........ so good going dear! When I gaze a candle and then meditate after it, meditation becomes easy as I can very easily visualize the candle, its flame, its warmth, its holiness.................i imagine all the darkness vanishing and turning into a stream of light. But frankly telling, we have to employ different procedures on different days as daily the mind plays different games with us. It loves to dodge us but mind has been made to serve us and not the opposite!! I had been to my homeplace I could not meditate properly for a day and today morning, I again had a horrible dream and anxiety when I woke up. So darling...........the point is......It does make a difference! |

| Before I started having seizures, I meditated twice a day for 30-60 minutes each sitting. I used to teach meditation. Increasingly, I've found this difficult to impossible. At this point, I find it only valuable to make the attempt. My mind wanders after only a few seconds. What is important is noticing that the mind wanders and returning. This winter or spring I plan on going on a retreat that involves 10 days with 12-16 hours of meditation each day. I find that these retreats have a way of getting my mind back on track. I need to get my seizures in order well enough to do one of these retreats first. |

action without intention will be restrained by nature regardless - intentions can go awry - nature does not go awry - God does not err - I prefer allowing a 'mindless' clarity to which nature reveals itself! a child is like a pile of sand, trying to push or pull it will result in nothing - but clearing that which obstructs it from the wind will reveal its nature I consider the same with my mind when it's found to need change ways of clarifying are unique to the individual I believe~ now gimme some candy Last edited by petero; 12-07-2011 at 04:21 PM. | Well Petox u really deserve a candy for ur comments! U have mentioned a good way dear, I mentioned the way i follow. U are true intentions can go awry! Its said intensions lead to desires and desires if not fulfilled lead to frustration and wrath but dear this is the way I tame my mind and I have been pretty successful. Please explain how giving examples and what examples will help? I will surely try!! Wecome dear Brent! I am really happy to find a person who was a meditation teacher. May be we needed u!! A teacher always has good things to tell and I am sure ur frequent attempts to meditate will help u! Shagun |

| I don't know if what I do is meditating but I finds it helps me "settle". I lie on my back and think about my toes getting tinglely, pins and needles kinda, then I think the feeling up my foot then my leg and so on. Sometimes I can carry the feeling through my whole body and I can slip away kinda like what petox was talking about before. |

update I haven't posted here for a month because I'm embarrassed. I haven't been setting aside a period every day to meditate, like I said I'd do. I was doing it for a few days and then I got discouraged because I just couldn't control the mind chatter, even for a few seconds, and it wasn't getting any better. I still try when I'm in yoga class, but it's not getting any easier. It's amazing to me that people can do it! I keep thinking about it, knowing that it might get easier if I'm more consistent in my effort. So hard to do, so easy to get discouraged. |

| Marion, dont stop meditating! Keep trying, there are days when we can not concentrate but that does not mean we can not do anything! Its my suggestion, rest up to u!! I am doing it daily and I am just loving it, I can sleep without it and the first thing I do after getting up is meditation. I AM LOVING IT!! Petero.......................lage raho munna bhai!!! |
