This sounds totally outrageous. Isn't there a waiver that you have to sign when you ride? I believe that when we took our kids riding, we had to sign a waiver. If you can't ride because you have E, then this place should also not allow anyone with a heart condition to ride either as they may have a heart attack at anytime. I would certainly contact an attorney to see if they are out of line.

Hi Dave

I have the same issues in the UK, but I get away with it because I use my Mums horse. But local riding schools etc have insurances that do not cover people with epilepsy. Though they do riding classes for the disabled, I wonder whether they have a special insurance??

Dave,

Does your personal insurance cover something like this? Like tinasmom said, I've been horseback riding, but had to sign a waiver.
The epileptologist I used to see is an avid horse rider and once a month she would hold riding forums for her patients, but she made sure we wore helmets before we got on the horse, since she was being held responsible, and just in case any one were to go into a seizure while on top of the horse. And, you need to think of people like Christopher Reeve, who broke his neck from a fall off a horse. That could happen if one were to go into a seizure while riding a horse. Just something to think about.

Dave,
I would be glad to sign the petition, because I agree that they are discriminating against not only everyone with a seizure disorder but all
of the disabled.
