my first EEG results-abnormal

Hi all, yet another update...

I got a call from my Neurologist today regarding hte EEG I had done on the 12th.

He said that the EEG showed some abnormalities in the Left Temporal Lobe (I think he said left temporal lobe)

However, he said that the abnormalities were very subtle, and doesnt know if he should clasify epilepsy at this point.... he wants to run another longer EEG which I will have done on Wendesday.

The thing that confused me is this. When I had the EEG, the only real thing I noticed happen (becuase I couldnt fall asleep which is when i normally get my episodes) was jerking a few times during the strobe lights.. which really freaked me out.

He said there were no abnormalities during the strobe lights... so maybe that reaction was normal??. He said the abnormalities he found were after the strobe lights. The only thing i remember happening after the strobe lights was tingling all over my body, and I thought this was just becuase I was cold ... maybe this is what he saw on the EEG.

Anyway, Im also confused as to why an abormal EEG might not be epilepsy??.

The one im having done on wednesday is a longer EEG cause they really want me to fall asleep, but I dont think I will...I cant sleep with wires all over my head, laid on my back and someone else in the room.. its just too hard.

I contacted a lady from an epilepsy foundation today, she said judging by my symptoms and the abnormal EEG its likely its epilepsy, and I should find an epileptologist, someone who is very good at reading EEG's etc...

SO im contacting one today..

One EEG isn't sufficient to determine or to make any
diagnostics - as they say "the more, the merrier"; so
having more EEG's does provide ground work and
level out the table more - not only that, it also helps
them to know specifically where the seizures are originating
from. Abnormalities, Subclinicals, Clinicals, Spikes, Waxing
and Waning, Slowing, Kindling, can be signs of Epilepsy;
until they capture a Epileptiform (seizure) on a EEG, and
this sounds to me, this is what they are attempting to
accomplish ---> Capturing a seizure on an EEG!

In doing so, will enable them to treat you properly, while
this does and can take time - it's not unusual to come up
with several normal EEG's before another abnormal, and
a couple more before they even ever "snatch" a seizure.
Seizures "come when they dang well pleases!" While they
DO try to do things to provoke a seizure or seizures, but
you're under care so no worries there, if you did have a
seizure / seizures during the EEG - that's the whole purpose.

Knowing where it is originating from specifically, and even when
they capture it, they compare it with everything else before it,
and may have you go through it again and again, to make sure
it is in one area or two, and not all over the place. For it is far
better that it be in one area or two than all over the place for
such patients like these are easier to treat and most likely are
candidates for surgery and facing a better chance for improvement
and a brighter future ahead, than those who are like myself;
who are intractable / refractory which are more difficult to deal
with and often times harder to control.

So keep in close touch with your Neurologist and work with
them, from your post, they are going on the right track!
