Hope all goes well with the CAT scan. Let us know how it goes.

This is one of those test where a cat looks at you for a long time right?

okay so the CT scan was very frustrating and un-informative.

It took them only 15 mins to do everything and I didnt get any answers out of them for anything. Just snide remarks and strange glances.

So they take me too the room to get scanned. Out comes all 14 piercings *yes, I is a human magnet * and I lye on the movable table thing. They scan once, then pull me out. They then set up my arm to jab me with an IV *you all said no there were no needles involved lol...I shake my fist and i say BAH! lol *

The lady then tells me she is going to inject me with this dye that lets them see all the veins in my brain to check to see if there is any burst ones indicating stroke etc. She tells me it will feel warm and probably like i am peeing my pants *she was right, and this was very very uncomfortable, especially not being able to move to check and make sure your not damp.*

So suddenly I get this intense metallic taste in my mouth. Naturally i associate this with me about to have a seizure *plus my ears are ringing from the buzzing of the first scan* and I yell to the nurse to stop everything cuz I'm going to have one. She gives me this "ya right" look and says "why do you think that, its impossible to know when your going to have one. Plus your awake and talking to me."

*cue stupid-slap here* I told her I have a really intense metallic taste in my mouth and that happens a few minutes before i have a seizure, so please removed the giant needle from my arm. She laughs *cue second stupid slap* and says "I thought you were supposed to smell burned toast before seizing, besides that's natural. Your tasting the dye."

I looked at her and could've burned a hole through where i was staring. The nerve she had, and she said this all very straight faced and very seriously. It was so frustrating.

So They scanned the second time. I could feel everything going numb *my feet still feel warm* and they told me I could go home now. I asked what about the results. She said I will here from my doctor in about a week.

A WEEK!!!! I have to wait that long to get any answers?!?! I feel like they just dont care that I am seizing alot and its affecting almost everything in my life. I am constantly snapping at chad *the fiance* for random stuff. I dont feel like doing anything. I feel depressed.

So i get home, and because i still taste metal, and my ears are still ringing I had no warning for my complex partial * this time i removed the contents of the fridge and stuffed them into the oven.* Luckily I didnt turn it on.

This generalized into a grand mal *this was definitely one, there was no questioning this time as i am told i contorted so much.* this lasted 2 minutes. scaring Chad but he figured this was normal, and he never called the ambulance on me before. I stop look up and then scream *grunt more like* and have another one. Chad was very close to dialing the ambulance, but didnt because it stopped when he came running back with his cell phone and let me sleep.

I think i might have been allergic to that dye. not sure. But I'm loathing the fact that this is taking so long. I think i am going to make him call the EMT the next grand mal i have, just so i can get some immediate answers instead of talking to technians that know nothing and my family doctor who has never dealt with this yet. nobody has told me anything, just that there is a suspicion that i am having seizures.

argh!

Rae,

I hate to tell you but it's not unusual to have to wait for the results for a little while. I know I actually had to wait longer than a week -- I think it took 3 weeks to get my eeg results. I know a week seems like forever but you do want to have accurate results ad this will hopefully give them the information they need. Keeping my fingers crossed that the week flies by for you!

Yup, I

got my results back in a week also, so don't feel bad. It IS a possibility that you are allergic to the dye. Be patient. As for that technician, please say something to her boss, or the administration. There is no reason for her to speak to you that way, and to ignore your requests.

Okay, definitely a bit of ignorance (and lack of compassion) on the part of the nurse -- for her to say that no one can predict when they're going to have a seizure -- what bs!

Sorry about the injection -- that really isn't necessarily part of a CT scan. When I had an MRI recently, it was called an "MRI with contrast" -- which means they inject a dye into you to help pinpoint the area of damage. So maybe what you had was a CT with contrast. And yes, it's definitely possible to have an allergic reaction to the dye. If nothing else, the stress of the whole thing could have messed you up.

I'm so sorry that it was such an unpleasant experience. Make sure to let your doctor know exactly what happened -- that you weren't aware beforehand that there was going to be an injection, that the technicians/nurses were ill-informed and unsympathetic, and that the whole experience precipitated a nasty grand-mal.

I hope you get good info from this that will make it worth all the hassle to get the CT.

No worries. As to the test, results in a week is about right. As to the seizures following, not good. You might very well be allergic to the dye. so when you see your doc the next time, tell him exactly what happened, including the seizures afterwards. Grand mals are nothing to sneeze at. The last thing you need is kindling. As to the nurse, go to her supervisor and file a complaint. she's a nurse. She should know better. And if she doesn't, then she needs some better training.

^^ Agree

Ugh -- a week seems like a long time, but it's actually pretty efficient. If it's not in in a week , call your GP and annoy him, and it'll magically appear

I'm sorry your experience was so shoddy. At least everything is under way now.
