My wife is doing well, 4 months seizure free!

I just wanted to share that my wife is now doing very well and her seizures have been controlled for 4 months now. She's taking Depakote, getting better sleep, and watching her diet and alcohol intake much better.

Over the past 2 years I've spent the better part of each day worrying about my wife. Before I even knew she had E, I was worried because she would nod off during the day, sometimes act out of it, and had all the classic signs of uncontrolled seizures. The problem was that at the time, I had no idea of this. I was pretty naive about seizure activity and E in general. Since we've realized what was actually the problem I have done as much reading and research as I can. When it comes to E, knowledge truly is paramount.

Now that I better understand my wife's health, I can help her so much more. Since her partial on the 500mg of Depakote she was upped to 1000mg (500am/500pm). At first she had a really hard time on it. I even posted a few times here because it was so hard to tell if it was the meds or seizure activity. Luckily it turns out most of it was the meds, and she's now adjusted to them very well. In fact, I've seen a major change in her over the last 2 weeks time. The side effects went away quickly and the change was dramatic. No more nodding off, memory issues, or problems with cognitive function.

She also switched from Zoloft to Lexapro for her anxiety. That's made an incredible change as well. In the past two weeks I've never seen her smile as much as she has. The anxiety and panic attacks are lessened and she's even learning to work through them without her rescue meds (Xanax).

As for now, my wife is a happy and healthy person. I myself am doing well too. All of this had me on the verge of a nervous breakdown. In the end though, all the worrying and running around is worth it to have my wife back. We're counting down the days until 6 months when she can drive again. So far, things are going well and we're both thankful for that.

Thanks all. We really do make a good team. We're exact opposites so I think we compliment each other well. If there is something my wife isn't good at, I'm usually on top of it, and vice versa.

It's been a hard time for both of us, but things are starting to look up. It's going to be hard for her to get a job, especially in Michigan so that's the next hill for us to climb. I have a good job and steady money, but it's so hard with a single income. Especially with the doctor bills and medicines.

I wanted to personally thank all of you for your support and advice as well. For a while it felt like things were going to drastically change forever in my life. Now I realize that was more my mental state doing the talking than factual evidence. I now am certain that we both can have a fullfilling and happy life together despite what obstacles might come up. You all have been a great help in getting us both better. A big thanks and lots of love from both of us to all of you.

I plan on sticking around and continuing reading and educating myself. I wish all of you only the best and you're all in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so happy to hear that both of you are doing well these days. I don't know if you remember it, but I responded to one of your first posts when you were so upset about your wife's seizures. I tried to let you know how my husband reacted to mine at first. I hope that was helpful.

What you are doing in helping do the best she can and encouraging her while you both learn to cope with her seizures is so very good for you to do. I commend you for making both the commitment and the effort. It will pay off handsomely in the long run.

As for commending me, it's really not needed. When you love some one as much as I love her it's all done by choice because it's all I can do. I couldn't imagine losing her so I will always do anything I can to support her when it comes to her health.
