I was just reading an article about those. They seem pretty cool. Wouldn't it be great if they could be "prescribed" for e patients with driving issues?

That would be great! Then we could write it off our taxes.

The laws are different in every state, re: what's legal to drive beside or on the road, and what a person without a license (that would be us) can drive. I'm still trying to figure out my state. I think the only thing okay here is an electric bike/trike. I really wanted the 3-wheeled scooter, with a sidecar for my dog.

Ooh a sidecar! That would very hip. I picture your pup wearing one of those old-timey flying helmets with the goggles.

I might add.... this was for the stand-on scooters, but applies to motorcycle-type scooters (Motorscooters) and electric bikes:

People ride electric scooters because they:

crave the feel of stand-up scooting -- like skiing on land;
enjoy making local errands fun, quick and easy;
like to save money, meet new people, and protect the environment;
still need convenient, point-to-point transportation after losing their driving privleges;
want their own traffic "lane", convenient parking spots and shortcuts;
would use public transportation if they could avoid the "long walk"; regularly travel farther than the 1-mile range of kick scooters;
deserve more fun and freedom in their lives.

Oh - my mistake - terminology. It's a MOTORSCOOTER that I want, not a stand-on-it scooter.

You can get baskets specifically designed for carrying dogs on bikes, some go on the handlebars,some go on the back of the bike.
Personally I wouldn't trust the ones on the back (too many dangerous drivers, I'd want to see my dog was ok - though I don't have a dog at the moment).
