Neuro appt and sudden med change

Hi Everyone

So I went to my neurologist appointment and I was left feeling a little unsettled. He did listen to me. He doesn't think I am having seizures at this time but myoclonic jerks. I don't think I was successful at getting all my symptoms listed especially my early morning sleep issues. I was nervous about bringing all this new information to him I think.

The Dr. has ordered an MRI with contrast and I see him again in a couple months. He also has changed my meds up. I have started taking zanaflex.

The scary part is that he had me stop taking Topamax cold turkey after being on it for 3 years. I've been feeling really awful from this. Anxious, dizzy, can't sleep and night sweats. Has anyone else experienced this? I think he should have had me taper slowly because this is terrible. Definitely not going to be driving for a while with this dizzyness.

I will have to try to be a little more clear during my next appointment. Just need to vent some of my frustration.

Hi anastsia! Welcome to CWE. I've never taken the particular med that you're on. But I do find it odd that your doc would just take you off one cold turkey like that. From everything I've read, for most meds, people are weaned off slowly or titrated up slowly. Keep a journal. Document your symptoms. Call the doc and let him know how you're feeling. Also, don't be afraid to ask around for a second opinion. Just because he's a specialist does NOT make him right. Also, for your next appt., write down all your questions and concerns as well and symptoms. I can appreciate being nervous about talking to the neurologist. But you have to think of it this way, he can't be effective in helping you if he doesn't have all the info. And, he can't answer questions that you don't ask. You'll find that this site has a lot of helpful people. We can't give medical advise, but we can make suggestions based on our experiences. So feel free to ask questions, chime in , and vent in the padded room if necessary.

I feel a little foolish. I actually did write everything down I just didn't get thru it. I even gave the dr a copy but he didn't read it. My bad. I will do better next time.

called the dr and he is putting me back on the topa and tapering down. Hoping these sick symptoms pass quickly.
