norm had a bad fallHe had a bad fall in which he doesn't remember falling, but he remembers laying on the ground. When I walked into the living room and found him on the floor, he was very confused and when I found him he was conciuse. I helped Norm into the bed, he feels very confused and tired. Norm bite his cheek. Norm is laying in bed with both arms holding his head. Could this have been a drop seizure even thow it appears that he didn't go unconicuse? I am very worried about Norm. Could someone or anyone let us know. Janet Beam Norm's wife |

| When I decreased my Tegretol XR on my own, I started having drop attacks which I discussed this with my neurologist. Drop attacks usually happen under a second or two and most people go all the way down with no muscle control what so ever. When I've fallen, I go down, but sometimes its more falling to the right and either falling into something or knocking my sighted guide over. I was working on the computer one time and it happened where I fell forward but my knees hit the top of the coffee table I was sitting under. My hands ended up in my lap even though I was in the middle of typing. It makes me say "Oh!" or something real quick after as its forced out of me. I don't have time to catch myself and it happens with no warning. I don't know what to think afterwards and am scared. I live upstairs and I worry about falling down the stairs. My friend did I could not catch her at all. She was injured and has nasty bruises. Drop attacks usually happen real quick with the person consious rather than unconsious but a neurologist can help diagnose the problem. Its consider a generalized seizure or in that catagory rather. It effect the whole brain at one time causing totally muscle loss. I usually try to get up right away- my friend falls and she jumps up real fast- main reason is embarrassment. If I am holding something, I drop it. But usually I fall over to the right and if something is in my way, such as a person or wall etc, that is what I run into. I feel as if an electric shock has gone through my body and caused me to fall down. I have fallen on my guide dog and he rolled over onto a curb. I was so upset I started crying and not paying attention to myself or the pain. That time I had fallen down all the way but because Umbro was on my left side, I ened up landing on him since he was still pulling me forward with his harness, guiding me. The other day, I fell and went half way down and was able to catch myself, sort of. Drop attacks/Atonic seizures are real scary and can happen at anytime. Most people realize they are falling or at least remember it. It doesn't involve total loss of consiousness, normally. I would definitley talk with a neurologist or doctor to tell whats going on, and get and EEG or other tests to find out the cause. Sometimes it's related to another condition, such as a cardiac problem or balance problem such as virtigo. Please take care. Crystal and her guide, Umbro. |

| How scary for you..but what a great and caring wife you are Janet. My husband had drop seizures but not that frequently..mostly grandmals. He would more often bit his cheek or tongue with a grandmal. Both are generalized seizures and he will not remember them. Why is Norm having stress over the nurse's behavior?? Maybe you can set up a camera in areas where your husband is usually at to see what is going on. If its serious..report her ok? I would make sure to let your husband's doctor know too ok hon STRESS can aggrevate seizures. Warmly, Jan |
