Hi,

My neurologist said about 4 months ago that he will increase the dosage for lamictal then consider taking me off of keppra xr. I'm worried about this, and even postponed the appointment twice already because I'm dreading that I may continue to have seizures of taken off.

My neurologist claims to have specialized in epilepsy, but I don't know if he considers himself an epileptologist or what. I'm just paranoid that my seizures may continue if he takes me off of it. I've had enough of seizures and I've been seizure free since september after taking lamictal. I know he's a specialist, and that he knows more about it than I do. But he cannot be 100% sure if both are working in combinations or not and it's pretty much trial and error and with my seizures it only happens once a month or longer.

Is it worth the risk? I don't want anymore seizures, and when I do my father goes insane or paranoid (he's almost around all the damn time now, no clue how he gets the days off) He's more paranoid than I am and I am the one having them... I just want to remain seizure free, but what should I do?

Has anybody here had keppra xr fail at 3000mg and started to take Lamictal which stopped their seizure and been taken off of keppra xr successfully ? Any reply will be useful.

I'm current taking 1,500mg Keppra, twice daily and with a gluten free diet I believe my seizures might be soon under control, but I have not been diagnosed with celiac disease. The last time I saw my neurologist he stated that if I have another seizure that he will add another Med or switch me to another medication.... unfortunately I had over 3 seizures since I last saw him, but I'm afraid to tell him.

It's scary once you get used to taking one medication and the side effects and know that switching to a different one can change things. I suggest that you tell your doctor can you try reducing the dosage of keppra you are taking, and if you seizures increase, then you should not go off it.

I'm sorry, I hope everything goes well if you do switch.

Went to my neurologist last week and asked if he could reduce/or totally take me off 1000mg. of Keppra. He said, "Sure, you can stop right now." I was dumbfounded. He said I could stop today but if it makes Me feel better I could taper off by taking 250 daily and then totally stopping. I hadn't had a seizure since 2008 and my eeg from 2012 showed nothing. So Monday it will be 2 weeks that I'm only taking 250 daily and I feel fine. I will just worry about today not tomorrow. ONE DAY AT A TIME!
Good Luck to you.
