patterns

Good Morning All!

Let's all hope for a day with out seizures

I had a question about patterns....I have a terrible time with them. Checkered board table cloths, carpets, shirts with pin stripes and on and on. Do any of you have this trouble? They make me suddenly dizzy and leave me drained.

I am almost 85% sure I am not crazy

That's because those kinds of patterns stimulate the brain similar to the way flashing lights do. The neurons fire more when they have to switch rapidly from black to white, or at areas where lines intersect.

I have this problem too! I get dizzy and woozy when I look at patterns. There is a crazy pattern carpet in my office, so I never look down at it!
I think you are not crazy!!!

They bother me too, one very cool thing though was right after my surgery patterns were popping up out of now where in items in my home I'd seen numerous times. It lasted for about a month and reminded me of A Beautiful Mind.

I don't like some patterns and colours together, but i think it's just because my eyes don't like them, as strobe lighting never came up with anything in my eeg. It's only certain patterns and colour combinations though. (red/blue mainly)

So yup, you're not crazy :P

Hi huskymom! Sounds like you are photosensitive. If you can, avoid them. blue polarized lenses seem to help people who are triggered by flashing lights...and lights flickering between tree branches...you might want to investigate and see if they work for those that are triggered by repeating patterns.

Thanks for the pat on the back for not being crazy

I will have to give those glasses a try! The strobes affect me as well. I really dislike some of the new movies that are out and all of a sudden a scene will pop up with the strobes. Those and tv commercials! Don't even try to watch music videos. My son puts them on every once in awhile, and I have to leave the room

I'm photosensitive too. So I avoid the strobe lights and look away when an emergensy services vehicle whizzes by. Also, check to see if you have those energy efficient light bulbs that are shaped like screws. They can trigger seizures too. As can the flourescent lighting used in public places like stores and schools. Don't be surprised if some things bother you and others don't. Everyone has a different level of things they can tolerate.

I remember having some vertical blinds and the sun coming through them I would see light going up and down the blinds. It would really mess me up.
The l.e.d. brake lights and the super bright headlights errrr! I often wonder if anyone is aware that the fire alarm strobes and horns are a seizure trigger and when these going off, this is not the time to have a seizure.

I don't have seizures (my son does). I was driving down a highway in a construction zone. The concrete barricades had evenly-spaced yellow reflectors on them. I could see them in my peripheral vision as I was driving by. When I was in the lane closest to them, I started feeling very nauseous...I had to switch to the further lane in order to feel better.

I do design work on the air conditioning, plumbing and electrical for schools and it is quite common to go into a school with out proper fire alarm systems waiting for a tragedy to strike.
