Unhappy Saw Neurologist Today *confused*

Hi all

As promised I have come back to tell you how I got on with the Neurologist . He was very nice , took lots of history , made me do lots of coordination tests (which didt go well as I am quite possibly THE most uncoordinated person ever ) and then he stared in my eyes and hit me with a hammer .

After all of that - he told me my symptoms are "text book" symptoms for Temperal Lobe Epilepsy - but he said because of the amount of funny five mins I have (up to 9 a day) he would have thought I would have blacked out by now - so now Im confused ! He then said i would be having an MRI , EEG , and ECG done and that he would be aiming to rule out epilepsy ...... so what is he saying ??? Any ideas ???? All he has done is confuse me

Thank you in advance xxxx

I am glad you got to see your neurologist. I think what he is saying is that your symptoms are classic of temporal lobe epilepsy but he wants to make sure nothing else is causing anything else that looks like temporal lobe epilepsy. Some cardiac and CNS and metabolic conditions can cause seizure-like episodes. I have complex partial seizures and can have up to 10 in one day if meds are reduces or stopped. (I tried reducing meds on my own bec i was doing better- BAD IDEA). It was just yesterday that I had 7 seizures close together and I felt that I was in a constant aura and felt horrible. I was truly scared and took an extra keppra and almost had to take a Ativan. Anyways- sorry for getting off topic- you can have several complex partial seizures or temporal lobe epilepsy seizures in a day, i don't see why he would worry about you passing out cause of them. They don't usually cause that type of symptom but maybe I'm wrong.. hehe.
Please take care and let us know how your testing goes and what they decide.

I have simple partials daily. Sometimes when people have seizures daily, they can get misdiagnosed for anxiety attacks. He may be checking to see if what you have are actually seizures or anxiety attacks.

But just because someone has simple partials daily, doesn't mean they're anxiety attacks. Hopefully he realizes that.

Hi angie! Well, he basically said that you most likely have Temporal Lobe Epilepsy...but he basically wants to make sure by ruling out any other medical conditions. That's all. Sounds like a good doc. Doesn't want to just stick you with a label.

Yes please rule out everything. You do not want to get on the merry-go-round of meds if it can be treated with nutritonal means.
