| Selenium is an essential trace element -- sort of like magnesium or sodium or vitamin C. You can best get it from a normal balanced diet (it's found in nuts, cereals, meat, mushrooms, fish, and eggs). Selenium deficiency is very rare, and it's unlikely you would benefit from taking a selenium supplement. |

| CC u were after biotin first and its selenium dear! See, I think selenium deficiency has nothing to do with ur hair loss! Infact more intake of selenium leads to hair loss and brittle hair! if u take selenium by mistake or without prescription, only then it will cause hair loss. The amounts needed for the body are available in our diet only and in ur part of world the soil also has adequate amount of selenium. So why are u worried about selenium??? Do u have any thyroid problem? |

| See, If ur doctor prescribed the thing..................have faith on him/her. I hope ur doctor has suggested this after seeing some reports and symptoms. I too hope that the doctor is really competent enough!! Joanne, chill dear! If the doctor is good, have the medicine, but if the hair fall increased after starting the supplement or it worsened after it, u may think of stopping the intake. Why dont u have a word with some other doctor untill u have the next appointment. Good luck! |

| There are a lot of books, people and websites that claim to be well versed in health or science but are not. We have to be very careful as to what we listen to when choosing what advice we follow. I am a big fan of Wikipedia partly because they have been shown to be right more often than the encyclopedia due of their updates & because they show citations so that we can see where the information came from. If you read any biology book you'll see that selenium is a trace element. That means that your body needs very very little of it to function properly. Quote :
