So, was this a seizure? When I closed my eyes, I started having this "slideshow" with images zinging their way in front of my closed eyes. Then everything I was "seeing" became like an impressionist painting; this I'm familiar with because it is a prelude to a visually induced seizures I have. Has anyone else had the "slideshow" effect in connection with seizures? It was just a series of images like you would see on the computer, just one quickly after another. |

Well, I haven't had that happen yet but I'm learning that epilepsy has an almost infinite number of manifestations. Wouldn't surprise me that it was some sort of a partial seizure.

Seizures often begin with a brief aura (simple partial seizure) lasting seconds and then becomes a complex partial seizure. The type of aura is related to the site of cortical onset. Temporal-lobe seizures often begin with a rising abdominal sensation, fear, unreality, or déjà vu. Parietal-lobe seizures may begin with an electrical sensation, tingling, or numbness. Occipital-lobe seizures may begin with visual changes, such as the perception of colored lines, spots, or shapes or even a loss of vision.

Sharon, Thanks for the info. Sometimes I feel like I tend to chalk everything out of the ordinary that happens to me to being some kind of seizure. No one has ever taken my seizures seriously enough to try to figure out just what they're all about. I suspect that one of the problems that has frustrated my docs in the past has to do with the fact that I have such a variety of ____. I don't know how to refer to them. I do get the gut auras, although not so often any more. I get the tingling sensation like when you get chilled in the wintertime. My temples especially go numb sometimes. I get visually triggered, especially what I refer to as "impressionist painting" look. I have an auditory whirring sound that precedes some seizures. So. I don't go to a neurologist at this time; it's been years since the last one tried to convince my PCP that my seizures were merely brought on by stress and the results of DID. My seizure pattern is changing from the gut aura ones to sensory auras. I don't know what to make of that. Not sure I really care sometimes. All I do care about is not being doped up on meds and the seizures that I do have don't interfere significantly in the day to day living of my life.

This may be a silly worry, but it bothers me that I seem to be having auras in different parts of my brain. Should I just bite the bullet and get some advice from a (groan)neurologist. I don't want my seizures to get worse. It seems like they are involving more parts of the brain, yes?

I think that if you really want to know what's going on with you, you will have to see a neurologist! Good luck!
