I take 2 500 mg. ER tablets at night only and it has worked well for me -- other than my liver enzymes are elevated at the moment so we are watching that. I am fairly small and I think the dosage does depend on size and response. Your son's Dr. will need to do regular blood tests to check if the medicine is at therapeutic levels and if it is affecting his liver. They will adjust his dosage from there. The main thing I would say is to just make sure he gets those blood tests done frequently especially at the beginning.

Hi, I am still new and probably putting my foot in my mouth a lot of the time
that being said
I know that is not the size of the person but how his body responds to different meds. The amount of meds I take would be enough to stop an elephant (or at least slow one down) It is all in the person having to take the drugs, the doctor will monitor it, take blood, keep it in check. If you and your son are unhappy with this course of treatment then talk to your doctor, ask, ask what the half life is. I take med am and pm and sometimes have to stagger the am dose. (cannot do the generic)
