Are suprizes known to cause siezures?

Recently I've come to realize that often I have one or more siezures aftersuprize storys or major events. One example is after my daughter left her boyfriend and lived with us over a month she went to the hospital due to stomach pains. While there she found out she was pregnant and about to give birth.Out of the blue unexpectedly I found out I was a grandfather. The next day I was found walking the streets in the snow with no shoes or pants after having a siezure. After going to a Rolling Stones concert which was a major event I had siezures that night while sleeping. The day I got married went great. That night I had siezures. Those are just a few storys reguarding events or suprizes that have been followed by siezures. Has anyone else noticed this and does anyone know about it being a known cause for siezures?

Yes, stress and over stimulation often sends me off into seizures, i.e. whenever I go to concerts I always have heightened seizure activity afterwards.

The last concert I went to (last October), due to being over excited, strobes, noise and drinking caused me to have an atonic (drop) seizure on the stairs at work.

Sometimes Carey goes over his relatives to unwind (get away from the stress of dealing with me - honest) and he'll have a few beers.

The last time I drank ANYTHING which was a few yrs ago - I got sooooooo sick - I did not seize - thank God - but learned alcohol and my meds did not mix.

So no booze and now no cigs for me.

Yay!! ( actually boohoo, cause, though they went against my up-bringing and church background, they did calm my nerves now I just play solitaire and munch on carrots ).

Excitement and stress, both good and bad, can cause seizures. It's important to get sufficient rest when you are aware of an upcoming event that may be stressful or exciting. Practicing relaxation techniques or biofeedback may provide the help you need when unexpected events arise (like grandbabies).

There are a class of seizures that are called reflex seizures. An event that startles someone can trigger seizures in someone who experiences that type of seizure. In that case, the seizure occurs immediately with the startle response.

What you described sounds more like stress or overstimulation is triggering the seizures and not a startle response.

Hi Bernard

I was very startled yesterday. Afterwards, I had a series of seizures. I did not know if the seizures were from being startled. I thought they might be due to just having seizures. I try to keep calm, but that is impossible.

More suprises more siezures

I answered my door Saturday only to find a police officer. I was told my son was in a minor car accident and drove off. I watched as my son tried to explain that the other person drove off. The other person wrote down the plate number and told it to the police whom found our address. Because of leaving the scene my son has to go to court. He was pretty nervous. Later that nite I had 2 siezures. The following day I had 1. It adds to my theory that suprises and major events contribute to siezures.

I have no doubt stress causes seizures

What I notice about myself is that quite often it takes very little for me to react with a lot of anxiety & I don't process stressful situations as best I should. I don't know if that's because of the seizures, the meds or just how I am.

The neurologist-psych suggested Cognitive behavioural therapy to help.... we'll see if it does.

KARDSHARQUE, HI

It must have been hard for you to relate that incident. I am glad that you did. It might release some of the stress and help you to vent that built up stress. You have proven to me that the stress and surprises I got the other day caused my seizures.

For me, it is surprises and stress and probably some things that I have not heard of.
