Taurene and epilepsy?but since we were trying to get pregnant, the doctors told me to switch back to coffee if I had to drink something because a rockstar a day (or two) was just "too much" they thought... Symptoms returned... so we were thinking of trying the rockstars again temporarily to see if it makes a difference. I don't mind taking taurene in supplements, but i'd much rather drink a rockstar in replacement of coffee and skip more supplements. (I already take like 20 vitamins a day - and the rock star would allow me to eliminate my b6/12 and a couple of others, and since it's in carbonation, it probably gets absorbed better.) if it works really well for me - I was thinking of trying smaller amount with my son to see if we notice an improvement in him too... there's all sorts of studies on rock stars and taurene that leds me to believe it may work better than some of the other things doctors have suggested to us. - how many of you have had success with it - I know i've read through the forums where some people swear by it (taurene that is)... so it has to work for some people at least. |

| humans are supposed to make any taurine they need in their own bodies, even though they may or may not eat it in their diets. some people's bodies don't seem to make enough. are you a vegetarian, and don't eat meat? Taurine supplements are available so you can get taurine without the huge amounts of caffeine in energy drinks. Some taurine is manufactured and doesn't contain animal products. Puritan's pride has great prices on all kinds of vitamins: http://www.puritan.com/taurine-675?s...aurine&rdcnt=1 some articles on taurine http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12908638 http://www.drugs.com/forum/alternati...ine-18185.html http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-taurine-deficiency.htm http://bastyrcenter.org/content/view/879/&page= |

| we are on a modified atkins diet, that's basically a fat/protien diet, so all we basically eat in our household is meat - and seafood products. (we do eat peanutbutter, and fresh fruits and veggies, but we do try to stick to gluten-free, and very low carbs.) we dont' eat anything that's overly processed... if it's got more then a like 3 ingredients on the package, we don't buy it. we cook most of all our own food from scratch as well. (I could never be a vegetarian, i'm to much of a bacon lover...) lol I actually have been sipping on a rockstar for the last 2 days and have had zero fogs-no dazes, no blank outs, no headaches and no aruas!!! i've never been able to go an entire day with out a headache! ;o So, i'm gonna keep trying it for a while and see what happens! If it works, I think i'll get the vitamin taurine in the packets and put it in carbonated water for my son so he doesn't get the caffiene... with my coffee drinking habits, I can't wean straight off caffiene atm with out causing major problems, so i'm going to stick with the low-caffiene rockstars and then go from there if this continues to work. The neurologist said if I have a migraine issue - it could cause seizures, and vice versa... we aren't sure what's what right now... further testing at this point is required.... but... if for my family it's a taurine issue that's a pretty easy fix compared to the hardcore meds that bandaid the sypmtoms. I will let you guys know how it works for our family over the next few weeks. p.s. thanks for the links, I'm going to show them to my ND and neurologist, i'm sure they both already know, but it never hurts to present information. | My doctor suggested Taurine for my daughter. I believe in as pure a product as I can possibly give her, not a processed product such as Rock Star. Caffeine depletes your body of magnesium.

baby steps! coffee was my one vice I said I'd suffer for.... and if I have to give it up, I need to do the caffeine withdrawal slowly. I gave up all but 1 cup of coffee while pregnant in my first trimester and my headaches were so bad I thought I was going to die. -- I didn't die, obviously... but my brain wasn't so sure i'd make it. LOL (in my second trimester and up, I had to go back to 2-3 cups per day to control the headaches... it's why I started drinking coffee in the first place as none of the over the counter pain killers touch my headaches the way coffee can. i had an OB okay it at the time... so - we will see how this goes weaning off caffeine entirely... I'm not sure long-term it's going to work.) Last edited by emma; 10-01-2011 at 01:45 PM. |

| I still drink coffee - it is a pleasure I allow myself each day. Actually I think I am more challenged by the half&half I put in it (casein) than the caffeine. I did give up caffeine when I was pregnant, as well as all alcohol. My youngest is almost 20, so I don't plan on getting pregnant again
