Angry Two seizures yesterday

Yesterday I had not been feeling well. I went to lay down and my friend Rachel who also has epilepsy, was there to help me and make sure everything was okay.
She wrote everything down that happened in my seizure journal and when I read it the next day, I was surprised!
She wrote that I had a 2-3min complex partial seizure where I was postictal for about 15min. I still didn't feel well after that and ended up having another complex partial that lasted 2min- but this time my right arm went stiff for a few seconds and I was making gagging sounds of some sort. This frightends me since my neurologist said that my complex partial seizures can generalize into GMs. Then after I was able to walk around, I got up and saw my friend's guide dog (black lab) and thought it was my sisters old guide dog who doesn't even live with us. I got down to his level (King is his name) and I started crying saying "Dell is dead!". Rachel and my twin tried telling me that is was my friend's guide dog named King and that he is not dead but just sleeping.
I thought this was so strange to me because I don't really remember a whole lot from this event. I feel like I've been sick for a week or something- and my mind is so slow today!

I just started Lamictal about two weeks ago and today started taking 50mg.
I really hope the medication works well with my Keppra XR and Tegretol XR. I will be getting rid of Tegretol soon, maybe in a month or two.
I go for an MRI too soon this month- I hope we can find out why my seizures are starting on the left side of my brain.

I got a migraine after the second seizure and have been out of it all day. I've called people the wrong names, my guide dog Umbro has been extra clingy to me, not leaving me alone- and I was forgetting to get my other hearing aid, take my meds in the morning, and a few other things that I normally do in the morning in my routine.
Ive been saying: "What is going on today! That seizures got me good."

My sis said that I looked like i just came out of surgery.
I told her that I just didn't feel well and my brain was fried. hehe.

Anyways- I hope everyone is doing well and takes care.
Crystal

Thank you, I appreciate it a lot. I wish sometimes that I would never have another seizure- having them my whole life sometimes makes it hard to deal with, especially when having two in one day- I feel as if I've had small ones all day- but I'm not sure. Its probably just being tired and slow.

I am hopeing a lot that the Lamictal works out well with the Keppra XR. My new neurologist says it should work out well together.

Take care,
Crystal

I hope you feel better soon. I've found that after multiple seizures I need to be extra careful to rehydrate -- if I don't, it prolongs the "hangover". Maybe the transition to Lamictal is upsetting the balance between all your meds -- let's hope that once you're up at the target dose, your system will adapt.

I hope so- it would be nice to have better control over my seizures. Now I need to work on my sleeping schedule- that might help too.

I feel much better now. I felt out of it all day yesterday- almost drugged up. But my brain is functioning just fine now- yay.

Hello Crystal,
I think the tiredness is because you are being put on a new tablet. I am now taking 100mg of Lamictal and each week dropping one Keppra tablets. At the moment I just feel like going to sleep especially at work. I almost nodded off which is definitely not me. Good job no one noticed. lol
I am glad to hear that you are feeling a bit better now.
Sending lots of (((hugs))) your way.
Best Wishes
Debbie

Hi Crystal. I've been on 350 mg of Lamictal for some time and have been seizure free. I had a bad reaction to the generic (my hair was falling out). I'm pretty wary of generics and given my experience I'd stay away from generic Lamictal but everyone is differrent. The one thing to be aware of. Lamictal is a very strong med and to high a dose can cause seizures (I learned that the hard way). I think it's good that you're starting on a low dose. Actually it's very small dose. It will cause you to be tired but eventually you will build up more of a tolerance for it. At some point, after you've adjusted, you might want to speak with your doctor about raising it but I don't know how it reacts with Keppra or your system.

Good luck with Lamictal. I hope it's as beneficial for you as it's been for me.

Cinnibar- the neurologist wants to start me out at 25mg for two weeks, then 50mg for two weeks, then go back to him to disuss increasing it. you have to start out very very slowly to prevent a rash or other problems with lamictal. i will also talk to my doctor about giving me the brand name med too- i forgot to ask what they were going to give me. although the doctor gave me lamictal- the pharmacy gave me generic bec im on medicaid.
so with that- i will be asking for the brand name when i go back. i am also discussing migraine meds as well- so lots to talk about with him.
so far so good though- i like my new neurologist quite a bit.

everyone, thanks for the encouragement and positive thoughts. i appreciate it.

everyone, take care
crystal

Crystal, I'm on Medicare (for prescriptions), also Medicade, and have not had a problem with getting the brand name. with one exception. Then my doctor's office put in for an authorization and within a day I had the brand name in hand.

You're absolutely correct. You have to build up a tolerance for Lamictal. Doc moved me too fast in the beginning and I had a very bad case of the "wobblies".
