Went to the psychologist yesterday - wow

Well I went to the psychologist yesterday for my disability. My short term memory is far worse than I thought. We did three hours of testing and I know I failed every single one. The number read back, the story info read back, drawing the pictures and replacing objects from memory, etc. So I know disability should be coming to me. Bad cognitive, memory, so on and so forth. However, they did do long term memory testing as well such as defining words and knowledge of history and things. I got every one of those right. I'm assuming it was to test my long term memory. It was just my short term that was terrible. I felt so stupid. But oh well........just figured I'd vent a little. Anyone else do this?

I did this test a few years ago, mostly to set a baseline against which to measure any future decline. I didn't get the report right away, only after a return visit with the neuropsych. I did basically okay in most categories, but it was interesting to see the areas where I was weakest.

Don't think of it as "failing" a test -- you really are just trying to get a handle on what's happening in your noggin. A lot of cognitive and memory issues can be helped once you know which areas to target. There are memory aids (like the Post-it!) and workarounds that can help as well. Your neuropsych should be able to point you in the right direction.

I don't have a neuropsychologist. Just a neurosurgeon because of the two brain tumors I had removed, a neurologist because of the epilepsy and a psychiatrist because of the Social Anxiety Disorder. The psychologist I saw was state appointed, so it didn't cost me anything. They actually paid me for mileage too which was pretty cool

I have felt the past few/several days like something has been slacking like you write about it.
Could be the heat, but I did have a simple-partial type of seizure this morning - maybe heat-related also..?

It's always possible but I'm on a TON of meds. Every single doctor I talk to says that, so that's my best guess, plus it's starting to cool down a bit

been there, done that. The test is so frustrating. The worst part is that as you are taking it, they won't tell you what the right answer is! For the life of me on some of those picture questions (what is missing) I could not figure those out. I spent hours afterwards trying to figure those out. don't you think it would be nice if they showed you where you went wrong? I was told it was because they didn't want me to have the answers if I did it again. Laughable!! And really, who can remember the speed of light??
