wonder if anyone can help Me

hi, i am a epilepsy sufferer, have been for last countless years. doctors been changing my medication all the time. he recently put me on one type called TOPAMAX OR ALSO KNOWN AS TOPIRAMATE. 25mg to start with but is wanting to up the dose. eventually itll be 2 day and same at night, thats what they want me to do eventually. but iv recently occured problems and side effects with them. i wondered if anyone using them has experienced any strange symptoms. as iv experienced very strange symptoms, they are not good tablets, and mess you up big time. going psychotic, having turns, and trying to end my life since iv used them! and thats just been using them for two weeks. iv stopped now taking them myself, but its hard stopping them!

I would recommend if you're having trouble stopping full stop then taper off. Sometimes stopping an anti-epileptic drug suddenly can provoke seizures.

If you're feeling such strong emotions I would suggest you contact your neurologist (or whoever prescribed your Topomax) IMMEDIATELY. Some side-effects are not worth the curative effects.

Hi Graham --

I agree with Eric -- You should let your doctor know ASAP how the Topomax has affected you, and consider trying a different med. I know it can be frustrating to keep switching meds, but you certainly don't want to stay on one that's making you psychotic!

Some CWE members have also experienced anxiety and other unpleasant sensations on Topomax. You can search for their comments using the search tab at the top.

I agree you should contact a medical professional.

Here is another site where people post their side effects:

Graham,

It is important that you call your neurologist/doctor NOW. Don't wait until tomorrow. Call their emergency number or their answering service. If Topamax is causing depression that is bad enough to make you want to end your life, your doctor needs to know now, without delay.

Topamax also had some very bad effects on me, including severe depression. This isn't anything for you to mess with, second guess, or delay. Your doctor needs to know now and he'll help you make the right decision on how to get off this stuff.
