Yes, you can. For some people, auras occur, and they never complete out into a generalized seizure. However, do keep in mind that auras are a simple partial seizure themselves.... |

Absolutely When I first starting getting seizures all I would ever have was the aura, which I use to get A LOT and had no clue what they even were so I wasn't be treated. Eventually one night they progressed into a Gran Mal (1st one) and it was in the ER did I learn that for the past couple years I was having Simple Partials. I would call the neurologist to let him know you're have Simple Partials since my guess is they can eventually progress. |

| Hello pdubau, Yes you can. I was also getting loads of auras before I was diagnosed with epilepsy. Eventually like KelVarQ said they progressed into Gran Mals, though I still get auras without anything bad actually happening. I believe they are called "Simple partial seizures", but I have read somewhere, before being diagnosed with epilepsy, that some people can have auras which are migraine related but you don’t actually get a headache with it. Its sounds kind of strange but true. I can’t think which site I looked up for this information. Sorry! I hope my info. has been useful and you are enjoying your weekend. Kind Regards Debbie |

| As folks say above: Auras ARE a kind of seizure. For some people, they can progress into generalized seizures involving loss of consciousness and convulsions, but it doesn't happen with everyone. |

| I have the same thing- Its technically called a simple partial seizure if its just an aura without another type seizure following it. Usually you have an aura then it progresses to a complex partial. For some, a complex partial can be followed by a grand-mal seizure depending. I have auras several times a day- sometimes it can be up to 20 times. Other days I don't have any. But the majority of the times, I have an aura (simple partial seizure) then a complex partial seizure with loss of awareness and understanding. I also take three meds and will be getting off of one soon- yay. Remember- an aura is a simple partial seizure. If its followed by another type seizure, then its called an aura. Either way- its still a seizure. Take care, Crystal |

| Before I had the VNS, I was one of the ones like Nakamova mentioned, having complex partial and tonic clonic seizures along with the auras prior to the actual seizures. Now, on occasion, I just have a "aura" or simple partial seizure, and am able to abort the rest of the seizure with the magnet. I also still take a high dose of Keppra and some Topomax because I still have those darned seizures (auras sounds more surreal).
