Talking Yaaaahay! My insurance will pay!

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited. My insurance will pay for my neurofeedback in-network!

I am in total disbelief but feel so blessed. I just got off the phone with the doctor's office. The doctor's receptionist has been on the phone today with my insurance, gave them all the codes for neurofeedback, and made sure to explain it was for epilepsy as the primary diagnosis.

My insurance said they would pay!

I called my mother, and she did the "dance of joy" with me over the phone.

We both have high hopes this is going to bring about the changes I need.

I need to calm down, but you guys are the only ones (besides my mom), who understand what a great opportunity this is.

Sending seizure-free thoughts.
-Julie

Thank you CM! Yippee! I can actually go...I'm sitting here still in disbelief.

I just want to go tonight and get started with it.

Gosh, CM, I can't even imagine what it would be like to go for a day without at least auras or deeper simple-partials...not to mention the other seizures.

It seems I've been on the same circus routine for so long. At least this is something different...a chance. Something I haven't really had in a very long time.

Okay, Julie. Please give me a tutorial as to how you did that! My federal blue cross excludes biofeedback for ANY reason but, if I can find a provider in the Wichita area, I'd sure like to give it a try. I'm just not sure I can swing it without insurance help. I'd love to hear how you did it and CONGRATULATIONS! We'll all love hearing about your progress..................Roxie

OMG! I can't believe it! Maybe they finally figured that if they pay for the EEG neurologist and it gets rid of the seizures, they'd be savin g themselves $$ in the longrun...whatever their logic, CONGRATULATIONS!!

I actually have no idea exactly how they did it.

I found a doctor locally who does therapy and bio- and neurofeedback. He evidently works "under" or "with" a doctor with another degree (probably MD for medication purposes in their practice).

The woman I spoke with on the phone said that my insurance would cover neurofeedback "out of network" and for only 30 sessions a year, if we did it under the "psychology/therapy" heading...which is what my doctor is. But the doctor who oversees him or works with him (I'm unsure which), can get it filed as a medical claim which the insurance said they pay in-network.

She also said that the insurance said as long as "it was treatment necessary for my medical condition, as determined by a doctor" then they covered some portion of the payment. Then she told me as a "back-up" they are putting my migraines on the neurofeedback claim as well. She said that she has had several insurance companies cover neurofeedback for other medical conditions, but she was shocked (and glad) that they said "yes" to this.

That is all I know. It would be great if it also helps my migraines! That would just be a bonus.

Roxie,
It is worth checking into. I was always hesitant because I thought it would be too expensive (and it isn't cheap), but I found a group of doctors who work on a sliding-fee scale. So even though I wouldn't be able to go as often with no insurance help, I could still go. Just a thought...check around and see what you can find. It never hurts to call and ask!

Wishing us all seizure free days ahead!
-Julie

Talking Question ...

Ummm Julie, is there any chance you'll come
down from Cloud Nine?

Glad it all went wonderfully with you, and keep

Nope Sharon...no chance ...I'm floating on cloud 9! It's one of the few chances I get.

Thank you everyone for your support!

Mr. B-

Thank you for the link. That is very interesting information. This weekend I plan to do LOTS of reading and research. I want to get as much out of this experience as I can!

Robin,
I was telling my mom about all the wonderful results you have seen with Neurofeedback for Rebecca. My mom is totally open-minded and very encouraging about all of this.

Many hugs. -Julie
