Zzzapp!!

Hello, Everyone!

Hope everyone at CWE's been doing fantabulously well. There may already be posts about this subject, but what I'd like to know is, has anyone here ever had a strange electrical sensation (ZZZTT!) go through their body as if you feel a seizure starting, then all of a sudden your medicine(s) kicks in (BOOM!) & blocks signals to avoid a seizure from happening? It feels like a super strong ZAP! & then it's over.
My neurologist adjusted the Vimpat I'm taking to 200mgs (up from 100mg), AM & PM a wk ago. All I know is that the sensation is strong, but maybe this is a sign this med is worth it (I'm holding off on the promises, at least for the next 6 months). I'll deal with the "legs are moving, rest of body NOT!" sensation 1 hr after taking it, especially if this is my ticket to freedom... (WHOA, Ann! Don't shake your head too hard!)

Hello Ann

I'm not quite fantabulously well, but working on it

I don't know what kind of seizures you have and if what I've experienced relates to your situation, but I have felt that zzzapp feeling too.

I have simple partial motor seizures which are caused by a brain tumor. Though the tumor is the cause, I don't have full on seizures unless other factors are involved: It has to be "that time" (sorry if that's too much info), my meds have to be off somehow (low levels, drug interaction...), I have to be tired/stressed (which is pretty much all the time), and I have to do some sort of jerking motion with my arm which is the actual trigger. If its just two factors plus the jerking motion I get that zzzapp feeling like my brain wants to seize, but can't get it together

I really hope this new dosage works out for you! Keep us updated

Hi, Anne,

I have a different but related kind of feeling. My auras are an electrical feeling that's kind of like a bad chord on a piano. They are not as strong as your electrical feeling. When the aura ends (either in a seizure or not a seizure), it turns off like a light switch. So does the feeling of forboding. It can last from a few seconds to hours. Ick.

I decided I'm finally going to tell my doc about the auras sometimes lasting hours. I've put it off because I'm afraid he'll give me more drugs, which I don't want, or tell me to go to the emergency room, which I really don't want.

Anybody else here have auras that sometimes last hours? What does your doc have you do?

BINGO! I had that feeling which started on the right side of my head, then down the right arm and leg. When it happened I wasn't sure what it was and it only lasted seconds (maybe) and that was back in December. Then about 3 months ago at work I got it again and down on the ground in the "flop like a fish" position. Needless to say I went from 400mg/day of carbamezapine to 2500mg/day of Keppra. I had it the other day but only minor, so maybe the Keppra is working. Hope this helps.

I started noticing an electrical sensation and it goes from my head to my fingertips and other times its all over my body. As if someone take a current of electricity and drops it on my head and goes through my body all the way down. Sometimes it happens while doing ordinary things. I don't know if its an aura or not- but sometimes I imagine little metal tiny balls and it just rolls through my arms down to the floor in under a sec. Its like my nerves are checking in with my body.
Its real hard to explain but lol that is what I think of.
I thought about mentioning it but then I would probably get no answer since its something that I feel, and isn't just something that a doctor can see and diagnose. It just one of those personal aura like sensation that is unique.

Take care
Crystal

Hi Travel Bug, Endless, Neil, & Crystal:
Thank you for replying to my post. My 'ZZZTT!' feeling starts at my lower spine & travels through my legs, & yes it's the strangest feeling! When I feel it coming, & I'm not near anything I can grab & hold onto, I become an Olympic short relay track star so I can find a table or chair until the shock passes (so I don't break my hip). I'm going to call my busy neurologist today to see what he has to say, because I'm not waiting until January to tell him about this. Hope you all are doing well. Take care!
